I feel like we're days away from someone creating the 'Do you like Lady Gaga?' thread, at which point the forum will self-destruct and we will all finally be free :vegas:

our own matter will be self collapsing into nothingness

i don't like at all the laid back/acoustic/country/folk americana/funk/soft-rock and that type of genres, but i do love joanne very much, i think it's because the musical approach of gaga in the genre and how the album flows, joanne is so dynamic and eclectic genre and stylewise, it's really fun to listen to, it doesn't fall flat or get monotonous in the same mood and style like a lot of albums by other pop artists that make this kind of album. I get bored very easily, even reading lyrics, it didn't happened with joanne.

The order of the 1st half of the album really threw me off back when it came out in 2016.

I can kind of see Diamond Heart leading up to A-YO, but then Joanne ushers in the most ~melancholic~ mood yet it's followed by John Wayne (the latter being a masterclass in Gaga songwriting structure, if you ask me). Also, if this album introduces the alter ego of your late aunt, singing about masturbation just makes it weird for me... Like she's watching over me while I'm dancing in cirlces—pink hat and tissue-in-hand and all.

However, if you take into account that ARTPOP also jumped around chaotically from genre to genre it all makes sense. Come To Mama could've been written and sung by John Lennon, Hey Girl makes it lesbian towards the end, the control and build-up in the vocals of Sinner's Prayer, Brian Newman in Just Another Day, Million Reasons is tri-conique... It's an intimate body of work and a majority of the songs are v catchy. There's no way it doesn't sound like her.

It might not be her most cohesive or even her best. But a solid ****ing album, y'all. And every time I see some baby pink millinery moment now, I can't help but to belt out a: "Take my haaaand."

PS: I've tried but I still can't get into Perfect Illusion.

Maestro, play me your symphony; I will answer to anything. Take me on a trip,

It remains my favorite album, ARTPOP is its only competition in my heart :legend:

But where I feel a STRONG emotional connection to ARTPOP, I feel a similar connection to Joanne along with its objective quality :legend:

I enjoyed it, but frankly I barely go back to it. But I'm glad it exists and Gaga got to show that side of her artistry. Joanne is one of my favorite songs of hers (and me and a couple of fans got to sing it with Gaga on some street corner in Paris a few years ago, so that was special).

I never really thought of the album persona as specifically being her aunt. Much of the album is dedicated to Joanne, mainly to give condolences and love to her family, but it's also about Gaga herself ('cause her middle name is Joanne too, after all).

I find a lot of dual meanings in songs, especially the album track.

"Girl, where do you think you're goin'?" What does that mean?

1) Its most obvious meaning is Joanne dying and going to Heaven. It's a tribute song.

2) It's also about Gaga stepping into the spotlight after everyone told her no. Like "girl, where do you think you're going? You don't deserve the stardom" but then she said "yes I do, bitch, now move before my foot-high-heels walk over you :whitney:"

3) (what I feel when I hear that song) She spoke about pain a lot during that era and how it can change you completely. "Joanne" (Gaga, her dad, or the listener) never literally left, they just changed so completely due to pain that they're a different person than they were before. She said she felt like she never met her real dad because Joanne's death changed him so drastically. She said sometimes she doesn't know who she even is because pain has changed her. We can all relate to that.

It's chaotic :diane:

It's a bit pretentious :diane:

It's personal :diane:

It's Lady Gaga at her goddamn best

I really loved it when it first came out. But it hasn't aged well for me. I listen to it less than any other Gaga album.

With that said, Diamond Heart and Perfect Illusion are masterpieces, and I still really like Joanne the song!

I've only ever listened to the album in full once and that was enough, I love Perfect Illusion and John Wayne though. I appreciate the album for what it means to Gaga though, so I'm glad she did it, plus it helps showcase even more of her talent in different genres.

It’s a very haunting album if you ask me. The whole ghost of her aunt thing really manifests in sound as well story.

gaga never describes joanne as warching over her, rather she described the alter ego as living trough her, like if her heart and hers are united and she reincarnated in her, gaga is a sexually liberated being, dancing in circles is not only about masturbation is literally about rubbing the pain out, it doesn't get more real than that, i'm glad gaga did a song like that in the album instead of keeping the whole thing subtle or puritanical..

It’s one of my less favourite Gaga albums but it’s got some good tracks.  John Wayne is great.

It makes me want a whole album with songs like Just Another Day
