CooterFritter 777
And when you’re gone I’ll tell them my religion’s you. Maybe saying she’s keeping the secret of their love to protect him until he dies? Not sure though…

RichAssPiss 4,746
Love is an interpretation of history. It is not a universal truth, but something you convince someone you have. One day you may convince people that what you had was love, but that doesn't mean the speaker of the song agrees what you did was love them.
Rivington St 499
I think it refers to the relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. According to the Christian/Catholic tradition, that relationship didn't exist, but some historians say they even had children.
enissa11 2,984
Bloody Mary is a quite complex and multidimensional song actually, so many people underestimate gaga as a songwriter, but she's honestly a genius songwriter. I think the song is inspired by gaga's own struggles with love and her rockstar girlfriend complex, as well as gnostic texts and Apocrypha gospels banned and persecuted by the early orthodox christian church because they were considered heretical, in some of those codex she's portrayed often as divine as an avatar of the goddess Sophia (wisdom) and one of jesus disciples, and not only that, but the one who has the closest relationship with him, and she's her own messiah in her own way, historians found these codex centuries later buried in old gnostic churches in Egypt and other places, so literally love is just a history that they may prove. The whole verse is like this: Love is just a history that they may prove And when you're gone, I'll tell them my religion's you When Punk-tius comes to kill the King upon his throne I'm ready for their stones Note that in the last two lines it's like she's willing to be sacrificed and take their stones order in to fulfil the prophecy too, and even in the judas video you see her death at the end instead of Jesus, she's stoned to death standing like it is a crucifixion, she was her own messiah, gaga said that she consideres Mary Magdalene both divine and fully human like Jesus Christ, she even said that she used to pray to Mary Magdalene instead of Jesus sometimes too. This is also contrast in the second verse where she says: We are not just art for Michelangelo to carve He can't rewrite the agro of my furied heart. As Michelangelo was an artist from the renaissance that made sculptures for the church portraying events of the gospels, and he made one of Mary Magdalene and Jesus, but they couldn't rewrite their story because they don't know what really happened, it also relates with the phrase that gaga said about these concepts "If they were not who you were taught they would be, would you still believe?" meaning the common archetypes manipulated by the church and taught in mainstream Christianity. Bloody Mary is a masterpiece, literally fine art in a pop form. Mad Architect of Light
FentyGa 14,340
“history repeats itself” basically think of any young couple that falls madly in love and ends in a crash and burn. they’re just proving the historical archetype of romeo and juliet if that makes sense
Moonlight on Water 13,773
Just the history between Mary Magdalene and Jesus. Some say Jesus wouldn't have loved a human or had sex with them, and Magdalene became a bigger supporter when Jesus died. Could've sworn she was more in the background before he died. Maybe a hint to women playing a bigger role as time progressed maybe she/her
Fresco 1,688
She disclosed last year that she had been pregnant by her rapist. This song could be how she saw herself and that relationship. I've always wondered why the song started with money and ending with freedom and love. She uses so much double entendre in lyrics that I think the song actually does have multiple meanings. Poetic or obfuscation.
