And yes every Tom, Rick, and Harry should be able to vote because if the people born in the country didn't have to file lengthy paperwork for their RIGHT to vote then immigrants shouldn't either

And not to mention how lengthy and costly it is to even start the process of getting citizenship  I know people who have lived here for decades now who still don’t have the money or other means to become citizens despite being here since toddlers

Now you're just making stuff up. There is no lengthy process to register to vote. You can do it literally at the DMV.

I think that If you pay taxes, then you should be able to decide what that money is used for, and other things.

Exactly! The fact that so much tax revenue is garnered through non-citizens, yet they don’t get the right to say where their taxes go towards is so weird to me  like I understand not getting the right to vote for presidents/congressmen, but everything else should be fair game.

If they wanted to impose a time restriction like u cant if ur brand new permanent resident i could understand that. Like ur still getting to know the Country and culture and issues and maybe not the most qualified to vote

 

But theres a lot of immigrants that have been settled for ages whos vote should be as good as any

 

Here in Canada i know so many ppl that came so young they dont even remember their parents language yet they never went thru citizenship process just because and im sure its the same in the US

i think there should be rules abt how long you’ve lived there, but not necessarily citizenship. for instance, if you’ve lived somewhere for 10 years, i think that’s a valid reason to earn your right to vote.

i was born in london, and i’ve lived here all 18 years of my life. and yet, because i’m a polish citizen, i can’t vote. i have no say in the legislation that directly affects me, yet i can vote for poland even though i’m hardly ever there. i understand why, but i also think it’s unrealistic to say “just get a citizenship, then!”. these things cost money, and frankly, not everyone has 2k to drop on a citizenship.
