After a year of criticism over diversity, the Golden Globes have come up with a decent slate of nominees, with Gaga surely the favourite for best actress On the best actress – drama list my betting is on the outrageous Lady Gaga in House of Gucci. Nobody brings the drama like LG, but this film should really have been in the musical or comedy category – though perhaps putting it with the serious films perpetuates the joke. Kristen Stewart is tipped for silverware by many for her role in the entertaining if fundamentally silly drama Spencer, imagining Princess Diana’s dire final Christmas with the royals. The GGs have their own voting patterns different from the Academy. Sometimes they can be quite unpredictable. Gaga was predicted to win in 2018 for A Star Is Born. People were saying "If they could give Gaga the trophy for AHS: Hotel, they would surely give her for ASIB", but Glenn Close ended up winning instead, however, Glenn didn't win the Oscar. Last year, they awarded Andra Day and Chadwick Boseman but neither of these actors would go on to win the Oscar. I think what's special about the GGs is that they're not afraid to be a little unconventional in their choices, even if it means awarding the more commercially recognised movies/performances. Could Gaga possibly win the Golden Globe? Gaga would benefit from a win or an another award nomination. She was unexpectedly thrown out of two Oscar nomination predictions. I am afraid HOG lost momentum at the end of its movie run. Some are predicting a Jessica or Nicole upset. Gaga is the least likely to win according to most 'insiders'. However HFPA is a very small group, so they can really go for anyone. It really comes down to what kind of direction they want to go for this year, considered their vulnerable status. They'll go for Kristen if they want the expected, safe choice, and to predict the Oscar winner. Nicole is for rewarding veteran and a role that glorify the golden age of Hollywood. Jessica is for the underdog upset, like Andra Day last year. Gaga, if they want the most press attention and borrow some of her super stardom to rebound. They might want to take this moment to re-establish themselves as an important precursor to the Oscars and that would mean voting for an actress with a bigger shot at winning there.
