pachinko 10,752
That’s surprising, I thought Omicron was more contagious but milder symptoms.
AlexanderMagno 10,746
I'm from Portugal, one of the countries with the highest vaccination rates (almost 89% completely vaccinated). Right now, we have an all-time high of people infected with covid. But the numbers of deaths and hospitalised is incredibly low. A year ago (last highest peak): 12 000 cases, 6400 hospitalised, 780 at ICU, 290 deaths. Today (new peak): 40 000 cases, 1000 hospitalised, 140 at ICU, 15 deaths. The difference is abysmal. The high number of reported cases is due to testing (a year ago, 60 000 tests made, today 200 000 tests!). VACCINATION WORKS

TEANUS 16,140
Keep in mind, Omicron is much more contagious than any previous variant so more people are getting it, nearly a million a day to be exact (probably more untested), so therefore more people are going to be hospitalized by default. It’s still a virus However, the hospitalization rate and mortality rates are still so low compared to other variants when compared to caseload. A report published a few days ago says this: "Unvaccinated 12-34 year-olds in Washington are 10 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 compared with fully vaccinated 12-34 year olds. Unvaccinated 35-64 year-olds are 14 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 compared with fully vaccinated 35-64 year olds". source: https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/1600/coronavirus/data-tables/421-010-CasesInNotFullyVaccinated.pdf "Who are we, if not slaves to this torment?" It is but for example 5% of 100 is a lot less than 1% of 10000 It's looking like the milder symptoms outweigh how much more contagious it is but with almost every country in the world hitting records the past week it's kinda scary right now. With vaccines and treatments hopefully healthcare systems around the world can manage the surges in cases and we'll all be okay for the most part. Angemon 489
It was predictable. This is a much more contagious variant, so the percentage of people who will end up in hospital also increases. I'm afraid but another lockdown will be inevitable. And even a vaccinated person cannot be totally safe, since the protection lasts a few months

Like i said many times, a smaller percentage of a much larger number can still be higher in total. I saw this coming 0.2% hospitalizations of 10,000,000 active cases is still more hospitalizations in total than 0.5% of 1,000,000 active cases of a harsher virus... (not actual numbers btw im just giving a hypathetical number to make my point i dont know what the actual number is)

POP2 4,206
It’s important to note that roughly 30 - 50% of all “Covid hospitalizations” are incidental. Meaning people show up for another emergency or health issue and are testing positive for Covid -most are assumed asymptomatic. This is verifiable information that New York State and FL have been releasing.

Do they at least filter that out for that? I don’t have that information, unfortunately but I will do some further research. The governor of NY released a statement that said 42% of statewide “Covid Hospitalizations” were due to incidental cases. They are finding this number to be upwards of 60% in heavy hit areas - ie NYC, and as low as 30% in rural areas.
