Celloo Deng 55,074
fair play she's done a good job on this. Katy's not really my kinda thing but this looks very fun and on brand. she/her 👹🖤 | Vanish Into You 🎶 HMHAS 🎶
Suspiria 10,683
Not to my taste, especially not those animated interludes. But damn her/her team reallyyyy put on a spectacle The quality and quantity of the props and costuming is incredible. All those massive elaborate setpieces and especially all those intricate headpieces on her dancers, wow. She looks gorgeous too but that's a given. I'm also impressed that they've done a new instrumental arrangement/remix for almost every song, something I really wish Gaga would do more.  Not to pit women against women or anything, genuinely just curious, but why would Katy get such a significantly bigger budget for a 1 month residency than Gaga got for her multi-year one? I guess Gaga had 2 different shows, maybe the orchestra for J&P was more expensive. But Enigma really has like a quarter of the setpieces/dancers costumes as Play, and they are significantly cheaper looking.
elijahfan 26,302
Overall, it looks like a great show. Very on-brand for Katy, and very Vegas. If I ever find myself there in the coming months, I'll go.

I think it comes down to a few things: 1) I’m sure Katy will get more shows. 2) Gaga had not only Enigma and Jazz&Piano, but most likely had plans to revamp Enigma.  Let’s say COVID doesn’t happen. Then, she would have released Chromatica in April and probably had an entirely new Vegas show in May.  Katy probably doesn’t have any plans to release new music/change the show anytime soon. 3) This part is totally speculative, but I feel like Katy might have hopes to take PLAY on the road considering she hasn’t toured since Witness.  Gaga announced that she had an intent of doing The Chromatica Ball, so Enigma would never leave Vegas in a meaningful way.

I love Gaga to death, but her latest shows have always felt a little lackluster compared to some of her peers. Very often, it's basically her, dancers and a backdrop, with the same old mixes she's been performing for more than a decade. I'm not even sure it's a question of budget, that's the most annoying thing. It's a good thing that she's an amazing performer and could basically blow everyone away alone on stage with one spotlight, but yeah, I kinda miss the intricacy of a show like the Monster Ball. I'm not sure this is true, it's always been the plan to make a proper tour with Chromatica. Enigma has always been its own thing, and at best we would have had the Chromatica singles added to the encore. Gaga doesn't really revamp things anymore, and it's a shame if you ask me... It makes it seem like she doesn't take her tours as seriously as she used to. Kinda have high hopes for the Chromatica Ball, but deep down I know it's gonna be the same old versions of Just Dance and Poker Face all over again. If it happens at all. sarcamstic 1,596
i love it!!  seems like such a fun show!! also that “i kissed a girl” arrangement is INSANE flying like 1000 birds
Lucas 27,092
Really loved the opening with E.T.. The rest is just very Katy Perryish. One thing I noticed is that she still does that thing where sings the last note of most of her sentences for too long

I guess the Enigma we saw was just a temporary thing between ASIB and Chromatica, whereas Play is probably going to be a bigger career step for Katy. 37 minutes ago, elijahfan said: I love Gaga to death, but her latest shows have always felt a little lackluster compared to some of her peers. Very often, it's basically her, dancers and a backdrop, with the same old mixes she's been performing for more than a decade. Unfortunately I agree. Her ticket prices have been getting higher with each tour, but the grandeur, quality and quantity of the stage/props/costumes has undeniably been getting lower since BTWB (though her vocals definitely peaked at JWT). I do think she probably feels like "I want to just show my talent and not distract people with props and effects" but knows she can't fully strip it back because people expect a spectacle from her, so the result is just something very middle of the road. I also feel like maybe she's too scared to dive too deep into the fantasy after what happened with BTWB, so she keeps it a bit amateurish so the art doesn't get too real and absorbing. Either way, given the prices we paid for Chromatica tickets (and all the time they've had to plan it) she really better serve a total OTT fantasy

I can believe it, but it really shouldn't have been. She did all that motion capture stuff just for the animation to come out looking like something from a Playstation 2 game. There were only 2 character designs, not really any environment design... it shouldn't have been a big job.
HuffsAhoy 7,433
From the lq vids, this shows looks AMAZING!! If I hadn't just blown my 2022 budget on an Alaskan Cruise, I'd be heading to Vegas to PLAY. Of course the first night was a bit off. But I have no doubt that once her and the team get settled into the routine of the show, it'll look much more polished.  You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.
