I love that she's talking to Zane, his interviews are always the best

Love Katy but I don’t like this approach she takes when she promotes a new song, like she’ll only continue on if there’s chance of a chart hit

Using terms like “the dance stuff” and “serve up more” make it sound like she’s only trying to get numbers.. I literally read it like

I don’t really think that’s so much Katy‘s decision as it is her label, that’s why they’ll drop promo singles and stuff - to gauge audience approval and hype for a bigger body of work. Either way, yeah, it sucks for her fans. Questionably good business practice for the label, like they say “follow where the money goes”.

I understand why her and her label use promo singles and such to gauge demand, but at a certain point it feels wishy-washy. One of the things that's so great about Gaga is that she's always making music, for the goal of putting out work wether it's liked or loved. Not saying she's immune to critique and missteps but if you only have something to say when people are paying attention, why should people listen in the mean time? :bear:

I don’t understand her usage of space, evolve the universe musically? The area around her?

I hope there is more dance stuff bc Teary Eyes and Cry About It Later were some of my favorite songs from 2020, and are in my Apple Replay for 2021. And I’m tired of people saying she should stop trying for hits bc those are the same people that say Teenage Dream is her best album. TD was made for hits, and if Katy wants to be back on that level, let her be.

My personally favourite KP album is One Of The Boys. Every songs slaps, I hope she will try a more organic/pop-rock sound again. It suits her really well and it seems to become trendy again. She says she doesn’t care about numbers anymore but I’m sure she’ll be happy about a number 1 song :bear:

she said she listen to her fans and does what they want, they want her to serve, do dance music and have black hair.

But after Witness' reception fans were asking for more Teenage Dream and PRISM, and she went for exactly that, yet failed. Happens a lot when an artist is sold to the public's demands like that; they loose their way.

Not gonna lie, this “if people like the dance stuff I’d be willing to serve up more” disappointed me... Like, she still misses the point, something far from hair color... :noparty:

I mean, Smile isn't all dance bops.... sonically the album doesn't sound like When I'm Gone, it sounds more like Electric - that self-empowering style bop, Smile was an album full of that style. When I'm Gone is not that at all.
