Alicia Keys is going independent.

With the release of her eighth studio album KEYS, the 15-time Grammy winner has officially fulfilled her recording contract with Sony Music and is now an independent artist.

“I’m so excited because KEYS is actually the last album I have on a major label,” she announced during a conversation with Genius on Twitter Spaces.

Alicia signed to J Records, a division of Sony, 20 years ago and released her 2001 debut Songs in A Minor.

I think she's going to flourish even more as an independent artist. RCA label has been really holding her back since GOF album.

I'm still pissed "In Common" and "Time Machine" weren't big hits. 😔

Many artists are going independent...

Times have changed and the industry has gotten greedier...signed artists just don't make much anymore and have to resort to other means to make ends meet

Independent is where it's at honestly...be your own label

which platform she would like to use? There are so many platforms for indie artists to choose from:

Virgin Music Label Services-Ingrooves / Believe Music-TuneCore / The Orchard / BMG / AWAL / Kobalt / ADA-ILG / MNRK(eOne) / RedEye

Any other suggestion?

Ok not to be dramatic but I literally have never heard a single good thing about RCA records. Like not once. At all. It sounds like signing your soul away.

Lmao they blocked my signature

Literally same! I feel like everyone that signs with them is being shelved or neglected.
