Canada Breaks Immigration Record... Hits 401,000 Target

Canada just hit its 401,000th  immigrant for 2021 hitting the target for this year just before the year ended

 

401,000 is the all time record and adding over 1% of population annually thru immigrants alone. The goal is to raise the target to 450,000 in a few years annually to offset ageing population retiring and leaving workforce

And since our severe housing shortage just keeps getting worse, we can start stuffing the extra ppl on our roofs and sheds

Im all for higher immigration in principal given the reality of ageing population and labor shortage in many industries especially since many immigrants selected are specifically targeted for skills we need

 

I just wish the Government got more serious in targeting the reasons why housing isnt keeping up so that immigration doesnt have to come with the side effect of making housing issues worse

 

Like housing action is finally starting to get more attention and some action but no where near enough. So far only superficial stuff like stress tests and forein buyers and speculative taxes that dont adress the biggest issue of all which is slow construction

 

My Province s finally seriously looking into cutting red tape and making approval processes faster and simpler

 

U can Criticize Ford for many things but when it comes to housing his proposals seem to be the ones put forward so far that would make the most difference

They keep letting more people in, only to not have the proper infrastructure to support them. Clown behaviour really...

I’m all for offsetting the aging population but I think this number is just too high. Literally nothing can keep up with such rapid growth and we already see the negative impacts it has on housing, transportation, health care etc. 
 

Canada would do just fine offsetting ageing population with half that number. The government’s real goal is just getting as many ppl as possible to grow the economy and compete with other countries.

It makes the housing issue worse but on its own isnt the issue. Weve had faster population growth in other periods in history (from natural births) and housing didnt get this bad

 

Red tape and inneficient beaureocracy making construction approvals so slow make it impossible to keep up with construction

Question is will they live in the big cities or rural areas? Something in me feels like ud need to attract more people in rural areas as big cities like Toronto seem to be packed with people with housing issues
