Since I've never heard it until now, I say yes it was paid dust.  Thanks for posting this.  I need to listen to a lot more Lorde now.

Which tbh I never got as I felt like no one who legitimately believed that stuff would put it in a song. I’m not even the biggest Lorde stan and from the get go it seemed satirical. I think people wanted her to be meaner tbh which is fair but at the same time...it wasn’t supposed to be mean lol it was supposed to be kind of sad and the satire was poking fun at how sad their lives must be. Idk I can see critiques for the song as valid, but idk I think it just wasn’t some people’s satire and I also think Lorde’s approach isn’t typically how satire is used (usually these days it’s more in your face and with more bite).

Tbh!! I agree with everything you said here

also even if it wasn’t satirical… I don’t see what’s so bad about it :cryga: I’d still like it haha

No.  I'd kinda overlooked Lorde and only heard songs that were all over radio, like Royals.  Do you recommend melodrama?

Go listen to it ASAP.

The louvre, sober, writer on the dark, hard feelings, supercut, EVERYTHING on melodrama is gold

Just listened to it.  Wow, an amazing album.  Somehow my favorite songs are all in the middle of the album.  My favorite song is Liability :heart::heart:.    Next favorites are Hard Feelings and Sober II (Melodrama).  After that, Writer In The Dark.  Then The Louvre.

Thanks for recommending the album.

I personally like the song but one feedback I’ve gathered from the haters (at least music critics) is that the aim of the song missed the mark bc it’s satirical, but you really would never know unless you “know” lorde well/follow her interviews etc. I’ve read people just interpret it as this like vapid basic song lol

Well, a lot of Gaga songs are deep and have several meanings behind their lyrics. So people misunderstand Gaga all the time, too.

There are always going to be people that just consume music like fast food on one side and people who truly want to listen to the story of the artist on the other side.

Definitely. I think the entire era was brought down by how corny/wack the lead single is. Solar Power is not fire from start to finish imo, but half of it is. Just not the half that sounds like Lorde meets Jack Johnson.
