Canada has joined a growing list of Countries whose numbers hit an all time record. Canada has seen over 12,000 cases in the last 24h

 

These numbers have tripled in the last few days alone showing just how contagious Omicron is

 

So far the Province of Quebec is the hardest hit with over 5000 cases or nearly half the total.

Im still worried. High transmissibility and numbers is still a problem

 

Even if its true that the virus is milder... a lower percentage of people requiring hospitalization from a really high case number may potentially still overwelm the system more than a harsher strain in much lower numbers

 

Also has it really been comfirmed its milder or is it just cuz of immunity?

Interesting Quebec has been hit the hardest. Haven't they had some of the most strict safety measures in place since the beginning?  When I was there in March, they were very strict about everything from masks to social distancing. I've heard they even have a vaccine passport. What gives.

For sure. That's what I was saying in another thread, the ratio isn't favorable. A massive uptick in infections will completely wipe out any benefit we could see from a potentially less deadly variant.

And no, we don't know for sure yet there's been studies that say it is, others that say it isn't, and others still that say it's too early and we don't have enough info yet.

Yeah thats what i just whatched a Canadian doctor say so i was wondering if i missed something when u said its milder

And Quebec could be getting hit hard all the time cuz of high density...

 

True Montreal and the cities around dont have skyscrappers as tall as Torontos downtown (many of which are for offices anyway and are currently being under used as many still work from home)

 

But if u average it out their density id say is higher. Excluding city cores in larger cities in most Provinces including Ontario much of housing is spread out single family homes with the stereotypical white picket fences even type of thing, even in Toronto

 

But Quebec has a lot of low rise buildings and apartments like the European style cities. If u average it out id say they are more crowded still

 

Ive been there a few times and their pedestrian and mall traffic is way more crowded

 

They also party more. Im sure that weighs too

Are they more densely populated in Quebec? That definitely makes spreading the ick easier

Anyway, I'm just sitting here in Florida where our state's case count yesterday was 13,000  I think our record was nearly 60,000 in a single day

The population demographic is indeed older in Quebec so yes @HuffsAhoy good point that may play a factor. They have historically not allowed in as many immigrants as most of Canada to offset low birth rates

 

But also yes like i said im quite sure they are more densely populated even tho Ontarios total population is several million more

 

If u go to Montreal for example, their metro has 4M ppl over half the Province and its tightly packed in Apartments and low rise buildings. 3 floor house apartments is also super common there

 

Cities in Ontario like Toronto may seem more dense because of taller skyscrapers in the city line... But while we build higher theres not much in between as far as low rise building apartments, some but not much...

 

U leave the core areas and its a lot of single family homes (tho a 2nd family somewhere renting basement is super common cuz of housing crisis but even so, its less dense on average)

 

U go to a mall in quebec or the streets and from my experience they are more packed than in Toronto

 

My suburb of 630,000 for example has a handful of condos and the rest is all single family homes

 

Ontario is the most populated in total but density wise in the populated regions I dont think Ontario is the most
