North Koreans have been forbidden from drinking or smiling for more than a week to mark 10th anniversary of former leader Kim Jong Il's death.

The former leader of North Korea ruled from 1994 until his death on December 17, 2011. In tribute to the dead leader, his son Kim Jong-un’s Government has ordered the public to not show any signs of happiness for 11 days.

During the national period of mourning, North Korean’s are not allowed to laugh, drink alcohol or engage in leisure activities

North Koreans are also not allowed to go grocery shopping on December 17.

In the past many people who were caught drinking or being intoxicated during the mourning period were arrested and treated as ideological criminals.

Not Funny Reaction GIF by The Drew Barrymore Show
Curious how UK is gonna play out when the Queen goes, like all UK gov social media goes black for 10 days, I *think* like TV shows with comedies can't be shown or something that's probably incorrect.

Yeah but I don't expect laughing to be illegal

Did anyone else try the chicken???

I'm like, not a fan, and I like, don't support the NK regime at all.

I was already laughing at the snow piercer reference!

I suppose what can you say, other than holy ****, that's dumb.

Spoiler

No one mention his hair...

(btw I saw the most gross picture of a girl eating a full on baked chicken leg as big as her head right off the whole cooked bird on a serving plate, and I think the birds don't like that picture)

It's beyond me that Ryan Murphy hasn't done AHS season inspired by this country. I can just picture the trailer, Evan Peters as the young dictator, Taissa as his wife who's miserable and disappears out of nowhere, Sarah Paulson the evil dictator's sister, who wants to take over and become the leader. Jessica Lange in charge of foreign affairs, Cody Fern and Finn, gay couple who would like to escape the country at all cost, even if it costs their lives and their family's, to live happily ever after in the border. We see them applauding non stop and non stop, with a robotic smile in the crowd as Evan is salluting his crowd, Cody's hands hurt, Finn looks in panic, telling him dont stop, dont ever stop...or ull die...

They lost me at no drinking alcohol. I can barely go 2 days without a beer, let alone 11 :air:

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

I'm sorry, but what's so funny about this? I usually laugh @ everything but I really find this news atrocius considering what will happen to those who break this stupid rule. Legit question & I'm not judging, maybe I'm missing something or maybe it's not a reliable source.

Please, Ryan Murphy doesn’t want to get assassinated. The DPRK threatened the US if Sony released the movie “The Interview” and in November 2014 Sony got hacked by a group affiliated with the DPRK. And the group threatened with terrorist attacks against theatres showing the movie. I don’t know what would happen if it would be a major release on national television :duck:

It is something which the DPRK is notoriously known for. I think even when one of their supreme leaders died, that the citizens were forced to cry for the death of the supreme leader. Here’s a video:
