Guest
Maybe she should seek a therapist and it must be deeper than being 25 I mean...that's super young lol Calm down folks... Look at Joan Collins Besides we will all age together and die together, that's my fear is to die because idk what happens after and also to be old cus ur closer to death, but it's life u have to accept that part I guess. And the crazy thing is, we are all doing it!!!! All of us in this world we are aging and dying, and being 25 and killing yourself is useless. Why don't u wait it out and let nature kill you? lol it will happen anyways. Have fun, try to create something with what u have, I mean it's not easy nobody said life was easy but it's worth trying. If you don't think ultimately it's your life and your choice to die, but don't die bcs u think 25 is old lol, proves that you are young to think this way, cus it's kinda childish.. PhantomOfTheDance 13,795
props to this mother, honestly. they sound like a fantastic parent. i hope this person recovers and doesn't let this get the best of her. age doesn't matter in this case. if anything, i'm excited to reach 25 and my 30s. society can really affect how we see ourselves . . . sheesh. Bolkins 4,156
Gaga's 'I'm going to explode into my 30s' interview has been something that ive often referred back to when ive become super anxious about getting to that age. We generally do believe that somehow we have one foot in the grave as soon as were no longer in our 20s, but from our late 20's onward we arguably in the prime of our lives. Not the bore worms! OMonster 15,025
Awful story. This is the inevitable consequence of a world where social media allows everyone to look their best and present themselves as mini-celebs who are at their 'peak' at 16-years-old. It's very difficult to navigate the world right now for young adults (21-35) where SO much value is placed on extreme youth (15-21) and appearance. I will say, though, I'm not comfortable with the 'gendered' stance of the OP. Of course, women face extra biological anxieties relating to 'ageing' (fertility) but I think young men are equally impacted by society's obsession with youth and beauty. You only have to look at the suicide rates of young men to see this. subtext / fantasy
Meta Mart 352
In Australia at least, your considered approximately according to a general technical time-out, as aging out of the "youth" terminology bracket, at 25. I don't think being suicidal about such an age is really that reasonable, but maybe its about a larger sense of the loss of youth in general. Even though I really accord that people can stay young their whole lives through happiness and taking care of yourself and interacting with good peoples etc. Moreso, I empathise that it's heaps **** to think once you're over the 25 mark, that you have to become this aged personality. That you can't cause ruckus where you want because people will discipline you to act your age. The general idea of having your personality and freedom of expression pigeonholed into the idea of being "old" is I think fair to understand that she could find it confronting. The examples the mother gives are all wack though. I find it hard to believe. Take on note, this experience would be implying the greatest of offence toward her. I hesitate to accuse misrepresentation, but to be fair, it's absurdist referencing and it's hearsay. After the experiences I've been through, I call bullshit on people speaking for anyone else and associating their perspectives with what they want to describe them as, and asserting that's cookoo. It doesn't get better sitting down with some schmo and having them repeat back to you their interpretation so you can "hear it out". The craziest part is almost always the hearsay, and the conflicted parts are often what that analyser themselves refuses to accept. Often people can't see past the ****ing tardive in the room, to assess a quality or emotional analysis of something on an abstracted moodology, rather than any real relevance to the person's objective cultural or subjective conversation, even in it's most specific of contents. When I was 25 my life was falling apart because I had been beset with hardship the likes of which, and deep ****ing offensiveness of which, conditioned all avenues of repair as a toxic cultural manifest. And it disrupted me ongoing, not in a healing way, but in a hijacked way. I can empathise with running from a life with a parent who's taken control of you and misrepresenting you. I however, think that considering their control over determining the course of your life, can be taken control of by a person themselves, then there's always hope. Otherwise, ageism's a bitch, and the old demon will pass. Still who has that many years to lose on condescension. To anyone going through anything, or thinking about suicide, please reach out to people you can trust. It matters to be heard and seen. Most members here, including myself, would be willing to talk to you without any condescension. It's a crazy time we live in with mental health, expectations, etc I’m about to hit 24 in 6 months, and someone which is like, 19 kind of referred to me as an ‘older generation’ and this genuinely made me feel uncomfortable. Look, when I was 19, I didn’t think 24 year olds are ‘old’ and I thought that it was normal. And yeah, it’s almost 5 years ago since I was 19. But I don’t think much about it, I don’t mind ageing, but I’ve noticed a lot of people changing the way how they behave towards me. For example, when I was 19, I would get like 100+ likes on Tinder within 1 day and I had a lot of boys which were interested in me or wanted to meet up. Now, I’ve been single for about 1 year and I can’t even get into a relationship because no one seems to be remotely interested (but I also simply got a better taste and idea what I want in a man after being in those relationships before). I do feel like societal standards are pushing me a bit, and I understand where the girl is coming from. I also think that the whole ‘gay death’ (passing 30) is something which is about to trigger an existential crisis. It’s a difficult period, you’re seen as an adult, but it feels like yesterday that you were black-out drunk at a party or moving out of my family’s home... majkl > kitsch

Things like TikTok, forums like this one, liking younger artists, even writing fanfiction like that reddit post mentioned. Plenty of people ignore it but it does so much harm to see or read all these comments saying they're too old to be involved in those things. What's crazy is they ACTUALLY believe 24 is old like they'll be shocked to hear it and say they look good for their age Millennials got upset and left Facebook when older generations started to join. I don't know why the younger ones who are like 16-20 think that 25 is so old now, and why they have a kind of elitist attitude about being young (like they are so much better for being so young). Idk if that's the case, but being online these days at 30 really does feel like it. And you're also right about the dating thing. When you're 21 you can get anyone you want just because you're young and the world is your oyster. The worst part is that I still haven't dated or been in a proper relationship at almost 30. The existential crisis hit me hard at 29 and I spiralled into a deep depression for most of this year... and I'm trying really hard to not let that happen now that my 30th birthday is coming up in 3 weeks and I'm feeling happier again. I'm sick of being depressed. I mean, I'm also sick of being single... but it feels almost impossible to start at my late age (because I'm f.uckin' elderly apparently). How does a 30 year old start dating for the first time? I feel like I've missed out on my youth, it's gone and past already, and then young ones keep pointing and laughing at me for being old. It just spins me out honestly I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

It just spins me out honestly No, I totally get you. But listen, most of the relationships at 17-25 will not last very long. I mean, most of my relationships between 17-22 ended after like 8 months. Young people lack social skills and skills to maintain a relationship. Also, because you’ll start at a later time, you’ll be most likely be capable of expressing your needs and handling them much better as you know what you want and want to do (I assume), and even if you don’t, it doesn’t matter. And to be honest, I will be dating most likely people around 30 as I am tired of 18-21 year olds. People around this age understand that sometimes, we don’t get to do the things that we want when we are young adults, simply because sometimes, we need time and a lot of patience. I didn’t get to finish vocational and higher education because I literally lived between 19 and (almost) 24 with severe mental health issues and I was too busy ‘surviving’ and making things work out. And I mean, I get to reap the fruits of working hard, but people are always going to judge me for not having a driver’s license, a car, a diploma or in this case, not getting it because I was simply not ready to get it. But now, I live outside of my country of heritage, I have a nice apartment, I have a good job and I enjoy life as much as I can. But even if I don’t get to accomplish the things that I necessarily want, I have a wish that I can leave a mark somewhere, so I’ll be remembered for who I truly am, a hard working person with ambition and the urge to help others. Thankfully, I know some very successful people around me, which are inspiring me to push every day to achieve the things that I want to do. I know people which started studying again at 28 and going to finish their education at 32 because simply, they were not capable of doing it at 18 and that’s OK. It makes them admirable for pursuing their dreams. And the same counts for you, things were perhaps not meant to happen earlier, but you’ll end up doing most things what you want. And that’s okay, take your time and enjoy the things to come majkl > kitsch

Dating as a young person just seems different, because everything is different as a young person. It just is what it is. And I can relate to you abut just being busy 'surviving' as a young person, and life just passing you by. I did that from my teens through to about 25 and just let everything pass by. I know it's not my fault, and I try to offer myself some compassion about it, but some days are a struggle. I'm good though! Most days are good, but I'll have a rough day every now and again. Thank you for your words! I have a goal to make my 30's a better decade. Not better as in I'm putting pressure on myself to achieve goals by a certain time in life (not anymore), but better as in more mentally stable and happy and at peace. I'm determined to make this next decade a more positive one than the last! I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
