That is fcking horrible. Young people need to control and atop their the inner guilt and shame. As well as the inner ageism as well. And I know a lot people in this site are like this too. Be it joking or not, we will never know until they say so.
 

But either way, I implore you to keep the positive thinking. Getting to older is not end all and be all. There are so much to look forward to. You just need to keep on moving regardless.

I feel like it’s a lot deeper than just “I don’t wanna be old and gross” it’s not necessarily ageism it’s just literally existentialism. One of the main drivers of suicidal contemplation and ideation. Why was this thread made as if there were a large percentage of teens forming some sort of suicide squad that’s against being elderly? 

That being said - I completely understand this poor girl’s outlook on what we may see as a “quarter life crisis” especially with how climate change is advancing and we don’t know how habitable our planet will be within 40-50 years. 50 might just end up being the new human life span sooner than later if we keep up the way we’ve been living on this rock. 25 being the new age for mid life crises isn’t far fetched under that scope.

teens thinking people in their 20s or older shouldn't be in certain spaces. Things like TikTok, forums like this one, liking younger artists, even writing fanfiction like that reddit post mentioned. Plenty of people ignore it but it does so much harm to see or read all these comments saying they're too old to be involved in those things. 

What's crazy is they ACTUALLY believe 24 is old like they'll be shocked to hear it and say they look good for their age

I totally understand the girl. Sometimes I see tiktoks from young people that are in their early to mid twenties and they act like "ohh I'm sooo old... I'd rather watch Netflix with a glass of red wine instead of goin' out partying. I'm a granny cuz I'm already 25! I started using anti-age creams bla bla..." 

And people commenting under videos of 30 year olds or celeb's who are about 30-35 that they "still look good for their age"! Like WTF?! 30-35 is still young! I see this under youtube posts quite a lot. Someone wrote: "Oh wow she hasn't changed from when she was about 21. She has no wrinkles and looks young." The celeb was 29 at the time. Well duh...

 

My parents used to say this phrase that someone looks good for their age only about people who were in their late 50s or 60+ ...

Generally I think this phrase is kinda dumb if I think about it. You look how you look and it shouldn't matter what age u look like. It's degrading age itself. Like it's a bad thing. This is all our problem. Our society's problem: The fear of age, not meaning the fear of getting old, cuz the opposite would be dying young. It's the fear of being old. Nobody wants to "be old". Not just physically, but also mentally.

 

It's like you're not supposed to like certain things that u enjoyed when u were younger cuz "you're too old for that." I remember Gaga saying in 5 foot 2 when she was driving by that school: "I'm 30, I'm old to them!"

It's because for the very young and teenage kids, 30 is considered "old" and it's how I used to think as a kid. 30 is a "proper" grown up but when ur 30 u don't really think like that. I sometimes still feel like a baby and I thought that I'd have my **** together by now.

Believe it or not but this is all a product of social media and the evergrowing pressure of needing to look "perfect" all the time. Celebrities falsely advertising the way they look (because they have private chefs, trainers, necessary time, enhancements, etc..) in order to make a quick coin off their most recent sponsor. 

The rich and famous nowadays are making money off of (especially young) people's mental illness and insecurities and we worship them for it. Disgusting. 

And that's on periodT as the youngins would say  I think? I don't know, I'm 27.

All of this. I've been seeing a lot of ageist comments online from young people towards people who are like 27 + and it's kinda messed me up tbh. I've already been afraid of turning 30 (gay death), and then seeing all these comments online the past few years has compounded on that fear and dread. Things like "chill out and have fun... what are you, 30?"  "you're only 21 out here acting 30"  "people over 30 are so cringeee"   "how to know if someone is 30+... you have a side part"  "so glad I'm in my 20's and still have a life"  "if I'm not successful by the time I'm 30 just kill me"  "yo if you're 30+ wtf are you still doing on this site/app?"  "shut up and leave us alone, you're 30 you don't understand the internet"  "if you're 30 your time has already been, it's our time now grandpa".

Young people act like life ends at 30. And older people tell you your body turns on you and it's all downhill after 30, so really you get it from all angles. I'm turning the big three oh in 3 weeks and I'm more than depressed about it. I'm trying really hard to shake it and stay positive about all the great things that my 30's can bring, but it's really hard. I'm starting to feel like I'm not allowed to have fun or be in certain online spaces anymore

I sort of empathise, I had a bit of a quarter life crisis moment for a couple of years after finishing uni. A combination of struggling to find work, moving to a new city where I didn't know many people and feeling 'old' because I had no reason anymore to go out partying. Your early to mid twenties can be such a struggle of figuring out life. Now I'm in my late 20s and feel much more confident and comfortable and I look forward to all the things I want to learn and achieve in life, instead of looking back. Lots of my friends at work tell me that your 30s are something to look forward to.

I'd also like to add to this that this has always been the case. Age is relative and it's normal for 16 year olds to cringe at being or becoming 30. The only difference now is that the teenagers and young adults now RULE the media. With the rise of Twitter and TikTok the entertainment industry is desperate (to severe levels of cringe) for approval on these websites/apps. Going so far as to create interactive challenges & dances etc. To try and get their latest release trending. 

I think people are forgetting that these people are literally teens with barely a clue about who they are, what they want to become & what the real world is like.  

A teenager making millions by promoting sponsored products to their very young audience is ridiculous if you think about it.

I kinda can understand why she did it. When I was about to turn 25 last year, I felt so overwhelmed by everything. The planet is approaching Armageddon right before our eyes, animals are dying only bc of us, humanity is battered by this horrible pandemic and we as the next generation have to fix what was done wrong in the past  .

And also the fact getting already a quarter century old
