KORG 4,756
Youre confusing actress with director or screenwriter. She's nominated for her performance and not for anything else in the film.

Well technically the Oscars can't "use" Gaga because the nominations are decided by the Academy members, not the producers. Otherwise Chadwick Boseman would have won posthumously for Best Actor last year instead of Anthony Hopkins. And similarly, actors have won before not so great movies, like Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody or Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady. Very good points. That actually answers my question. Kind regards
StressedOut 617
I would say they "used" her more during ASIB, I think that nomination was from hype alone. She did a good job, but that was it. I feel like if she were to be nominated again for house of gucci it would be a lot more deserved. This role showed that she can actually act, like for real. (At least in my opinion)
Ronk 14,499
Gaga has been used for promotion in TV shows her entire career. They put her on last, and in every break they say "Coming up; Lady Gaga" to keep people watching until the end. For the Oscars however, her performance has received so much acclaim by critics that she will get the nom based on her talent rather than her name. So no, I don't think she is being used by the Oscars. I live outside the space time continuum.
streamstarcrossed 409
I don’t think she’s being used by the Oscars. If anything, I think she’s “using” the academy - playing up exactly what they want to see/hear, talking about her relationship to the character, how in depth she went for the role, showing so much graciousness and praising the cast and crew - which is what actors do. It’s part of the Hollywood game, and she’s playing it. I don’t think she’ll be nominated just because she’s gaga. If she’s nominated, I think it’ll be a matter of the academy just having enjoyed her in the movie and the press tour. But tbh, I wouldn’t be surprised if she wasn’t nominated, and I’d be shocked if she won. I don’t see a lot of ppl here who share this opinion, but I really didn’t like the movie, and I was surprised to see so many reviews single her out as the only good thing about it. She wasn’t bad at all, I just feel like a lot of coverage gassed her because she’s a pop star in her second leading role and didn’t completely bomb it. I think a more seasoned actor in the same role wouldn’t have gotten the same praise for the performance she gave. The general public has this idea of gaga as this ever changing chameleon, so anytime she takes on something new, ppl that don’t really follow her are like ‘WOW she’s done it again, amazing!!’ even when it’s not always that outstanding. Having seen some of the other Oscar contending movies as well, l really don’t think House of Gucci should be up for the best actor/actress noms. Spencer was incredible, and as corny as I thought in the eyes of Tammy Faye would be, it was extremely moving and genuine. The acting on all parts was phenomenal. I think it would be almost kind of insulting to give such a prestigious award to a movie like house of gucci when there are so many others that weren’t full of such mixed performances. Gaga's a genius at this stuff so it's no surprise that she's the best at campaigning for that Oscar. She began by performing jazz standards at the opening of the Academy Museum, has spent most of her press tour talking about her method acting in a fairly humble way and also, of course, gave a standout performance. Also I don't want to say that Gaga is campaigning for an Oscar that she doesn't deserve, because if she won, it would be very well deserved for that performance! SevenWonder 3,917
I don't think it's a conspiracy, but I think the powers that be understand that having a Movie Star at the Oscars is important. It's sort of an dying institution as it stands. And because of twitter (and the rest) the mystery and glamour of current movie stars has sort of diminished. Instead of seeing them a few times a year, movie stars are online nearly every day. To make it worse, the biggest "stars" are now Kardashians and youtubers. Overexposed. No real talent. No real glamour. We know their every mundane thought. Now, we asked for that. And there's a lot to be said about having celebrities who are more accessible. But Gaga bucks all that. She brings back that old school Hollywood "untouchable" status that is super irresistible, even if we don't like admitting that.

flyaway 15,350
Well, all those awards stage everything for views, so of course they are gonna try to grab some viewers by nominating a true force like LG. She deserves the acclaim, but I agree HoG isn't that good. It's fun but that's it.
