Lauren Jauregui opened up about her experience being outed by Perez Hilton

Lauren Jauregui is reflecting on the time she was outed as LGBTQ in her teens.

Appearing on Red Table Talk: The Estefans' latest episode about cyberbullying and slut-shaming, Jauregui opened up about her experience being outed by Perez Hilton while she was in Fifth Harmony, though Hilton tells People Magazine he does not see what he did in the same way.

"I'd been dating the girlfriend that I've had at the time for probably a year at that point, but we had fallen in love when I was 15," Lauren Jauregui told the Estefans. "I was at my uncle's wedding in New Orleans and my aunt very innocently posted the photos from the photo booth onto her Facebook page. It was a link for the family to be able to click on and my fans are just a little wild and they found the picture where my girlfriend and I — we were drunk — [were] kissing."

After fans found the photos, they ended up in the hands of the celebrity gossipist, who then outed her to the general public.

"He definitely outed me. I wasn't ready because I'm also Latina," Jauregui explained. "There was that whole looming thing of, 'What is my community going to feel about me? Are they even going to accept me?' I know that my family obviously accepted me. But was that something that I was willing to deal with on a public scale?"

Jauregui shared that extended family members began to reach out to her parents about the news.

"I felt like my own process was violated," Jauregui said.

Perez Hiltonsaid he is "not sorry nor remotely remorseful" for posting the photo of Jauregui and her girlfriend at the time, saying that he doesn't consider what he did to be outing the "Lento" singer. He also said he appears on next week's Red Table Talk: The Estefans and addresses the issue himself.

He only apologizes if it gets him clout. Case in point how he magically showed up on an episode of the Hills to fake apologize to mischa Barton and she wanted absolutely nothing to do with it I love that she was like owning it and standing her ground, he tried milking it by saying he didn't know why they couldn't move past it like hello just cuz someone apologized doesn't mean that person has to accept, especially if it seems ungenuine, hope everyone here remembers that for their own mental health cuz you don't have to accept an apology from anyone, acknowledge the apology, even thank them, but you end that with "but I don't accept" ... you don't owe them that!

I can’t fathom the fact that this man still has a platform. I was reading his Wikipedia page and it appears that this man has been outing celebrities since 2006, so that gig has been running for 15 years. I feel like the fear of getting outed is one of the worst things that I’ve had while I was still in the closet, and I remember threatening people that knew about it in telling others about it, because I was that afraid. And the truth is, he is a plain and simple bully. It feels like we collectively need to agree to stop giving this man a platform on GGD, because quite honestly, he doesn’t deserve it at all. Also, can you believe that this man is 43? He’s a literal grown ass adult, outing a minor. I’m glad that LG stopped hanging out with him when she realised that he is no good.

sorry to play the devil's advocate, i hate perez too and he is a cyber bully, but he just tweeted about something that was already viral and said that it wasn't a big deal, so he didn't outed her, it was her own fans lol

It’s okay to be the devil’s advocate at certain extent, but if you’d read the post above which I wrote, you could read that he has an track record of outing celebrities and having some sort of satisfaction about it while doing it. He’s no good.
