That said, Satellite Awards are not a strong indication of what will happen at the Oscars They have been pretty spot on in recent years though. Last year 4/6 of them were ultimately nominated for an Oscar. The same happened the year before that.

But Alana Haim is a huge threat and her film has yet to be released... I also think MGM/United Artists are spending way more efforts promoting Licorice Pizza. All the buzz that Gucci got so far was created by Gaga herself. If the distributors are willing to push Gaga forward for a nom I think it won't be impossible. I am so surprised to see he placed Rachel Zelger on his top 1. I don't remember seeing her name on any top 5 predictions for the past weeks. Where is the buzz coming from? I know that West Side Story seems like an academy fav type, but it's still surprising to see Rachel debut on top so quickly. Also did he explain why he kick Nicole out of the top 5? I understand that Jessica's film is neither a critics fav nor a box office hit. But Nicole seems to be on every frontrunner list still, and her buzz is getting stronger from what I see. Just curious. No, it's a mystery why he dropped Nicole. I suspect Alana's chances will be torpedoed over the age gap issue (which has already become a bit of a thing). I saw the film the other day and I'm not particularly squeamish over that sort of thing in movies, and even I thought it was squicky despite there being no sex. I went with some friends and family (I'm in L.A. for the week, it's only showing in L.A. and NYC), and they were even more icked out. I'm honestly a bit surprised that Jessica was knocked out—the film was neither a critical or commercial hit, but she's beloved by actors groups and she has been hustling hard. Monsters have been weirdly fixated on Kristen Stewart when in reality Jessica is probably the most 'competition' for Gaga in terms of who gets an Oscar nom (both give big, showy performances in dramedies with mixed reviews). I suspect the Rachel thing is because the Academy LOVES Spielberg, they like young newcomer roles, etc.

If HOG has a 70+ MTC and a 75+ RT then I think a nom is locked. I saw so many predictions that remove Gaga from their top 5 (after the score is released) which makes me concern. Gaga's position on Gold Derby is also dropping. I hope MGM and United Artists do more to create huge buzz for Gaga Yeah it's a shame because if the reviews were just slightly better—in the 70s—I think she would be a total lock for a nomination. That said, keep in mind that film twitter and even online entertainment sources can be kind of a bubble (and critics circles don't always match up with awards). The major industry sources are THR, Variety, and Deadline—and all praised Gaga. And in the past, there have been situations where the buzz (at least online) made Bohemian Rhapsody and Green Book seem like the worst films in the world and like they wouldn't get nominated...and we all saw how that turned out. Same with Jared and Rami Malek.

If Jessica is popular among actors, does it mean that she has a higher chance of getting nominated by SAG? I think a SAG nom is so important for Gaga this year considering she may not get a BAFTA nom. However I guess Gaga's star power and great box office will give her more advantage when competing with Jessica. Plus Jessica's film is released in September which is further from the nomination day than HOG. And I remember Gaga also receive very positive feedback from SAG? I do hope Jessica to receive an Academy award someday, considering she is one of the most professional and hard working actors these days.

Nobody really takes them seriously, and certainly not when Gaga's reviews are so good. It's not like the RT score is 20%, I feel like that's how some fans are acting. If I was curious about a movie and saw it had 61% I'd still think it was pretty good. It's not like i'd turn it off in disgust. In this years THR roundtable with Kristen, Jennifer, Jessica etc they even talked about how dumb RT is... That some of their fav movies have like 10% on there. So actors definitely know scoring can be pretty bogus on there.

If you delve into the reviews, Gaga is praised almost every single time, and is considered a standout amongst incredibly established actors. If there were a MC & RT score for performance alone, Gaga would score high in the high 90s. Gagas' position is dropping on Goldderby because the film didn't receive as high as reviews as anticipated. But a Satellite nomination definitely keeps her in the race, if not helps her chances move up once again. Goldderby is a horserace from here on out for Gaga, her odds will go up and down depending on new performances, nominations. I really want everyone here to know that being nominated at the Satellite Awards is impressive. The governing body has picked winners that should have been nominated for the Oscar, but were snubbed. There are many interesting and valid choices of merit. Im okay with her not getting an Oscar nomination... I'm just proud of the praise.

lilboyblue 5,277
There is passion for Gaga's performance even if the movie itself is mixed, so she's going to remain a strong competitor for a nomination this season. The consensus is that her acting is stellar, even from critics who hated the movie. We'll know more as the season progresses, of course, (it's still very early) but at this point I don't think there's any reason to be pessimistic about her chances. MGM has done a good job creating buzz for the movie and for Gaga, and has also translated to good box office, so let's not.

I could be speaking too soon, but feel like UA is doing pretty good and put a lot of effort into promoting and campaigning HoG so far. They promoted on TikTok, got the movie cute little twitter emoji things of her & Adam, got a museum going with costumes from the movie, made sure to campaign it to SAG with screenings and Q&As etc. Its promotion is more modern and Gen Z/Millenial-focused than Licorce Pizza, which they've been doing old school style with newspaper ads and vintage looking posters to suit the time period of LP
