They're larger files. It's 2021. You truly think they had the ability to master things the way they are able to now, back in 2012? Or 2008? No. There's masters of songs from the 60's that are just as high quality as now, you don't know what you're talking about.

bluemonkey 639
I agree, and taking politics aside, the originals are authentic and while she can spend hours replicating it word for word, she can’t replicate the emotions at the time when she originally recorded it and the thrill it must have felt to make that song for the first time. That’s like would Taylor successfully recreate Lover, Folklore, or Evermore years later? It was a different time. When listening to both Fearless songs side by side, the original still sounds better as I can feel the optimism in her voice, the little imperfections in her voice actually make the song as she really was at that young age believing in hopeless romance rather than a mature woman who has been through it and is looking at the song with a mature mindset (mature voice) plus hearing We Are Never Getting Back Together, the original “WeeeeHeeee” compared to the TV “Weee” makes a huge difference in the catchiness of the song. While the new versions sound technically better with better technology, that’s like giving Taylor fancy artists paints compared to when she was coloring with crayons. Technically better but that’s just it. Not gonna say she didn’t do a good job but just saying that it’s not the same, and will never. She’s in a different place now than she was years ago. That’s just facts.

They’re masters. Not originals. Anything you’re listening to from the 60s was recorded on tape. Why would the Beatles continue to release remastered collections? Because the original copies sounded so clear? I know exactly what I’m talking about.

Crescent Bloom 1,078
Taylor's Version. As one user alluded to, as I listen to Taylor's new recordings, her original ones are starting to sound weird to me. I think there are exceptions to this (We Are Never Getting Back Together), but I generally find myself liking the new recordings better. To me, they sound fuller. Plus, I fully back Taylor on her stance to re-record. Sc**ter deserves nothing of Taylor's.

This is incorrect though. Recordings from the 60s are on tape which automatically makes them a lower quality of sound than the digital files of today. That is not an opinion, that is a fact. It's a fact because back then it was not possible to record the way that we do today. Tapes are not able to capture sound with the depth, clarity, and detail that modern digital recording can. That's why all of the masters of artists who were big at that time have been converted to digital. In many instances, when artists re-release their old catalogue today (The Beatles for example), there is actually some additional recording done to record over the sounds that are imperfect from the tape and are still imperfect even with the digital transfer. Vocally that's not really the case, but they will often record new instrumentation to some degree or another.

HelloBarbara 1,519
Well tbh - I was very late to the Taylor party, apart from singles the first full album I listened to was Reputation and then Folklore and Evermore. (I still need to give Lover a full listen). So the fun thing with her releasing Taylor’s Versions for me, is I can slowly get into her discography as the TVs come out. Hiiieee
Guest
So far yes, but until reputation and Speak Now are re-recorded, I will listen to the old versions. As for 1989 – I have the CD, so Scooter is not getting any money from my streams. Same thing with Kesha's old songs.

It doesn’t matter if you were talking to me or somebody else, fact is that you are on a public forum. If you don’t want people to respond to your rudeness you should send a Dm.
