Is Harry using queer identity as a trend? He's always shown his bisexuality even before it was "trendy" and in the early era of one direction. I truly think it's genuine

I get what Billy is saying. His original statement is still wrong, plenty of people began the conversation of gender fluid fashion before him but he does have a point when it comes to who the media choose to represent it as a driving force.

Queer people have been pushing the boundaries of gender norms in fashion for years and get little to no recognition while celebs like Zayn, Gigi and Harry get put on the covers of vouge.

Harry Styles never said he is bisexual. in 2019 he was asked whether he identifies as bisexual and he sad: 
"It's not like I'm sitting on an answer, and protecting it, and holding it back," he added. "It's not a case of: 'I'm not telling you 'cause I don't want to tell you.' It's not: 'Ooh, this is mine and it's not yours.' It's: 'Who cares?' Does that make sense? It's just: 'Who cares?'"

this is a really complicated topic that both sides will always make valuable points on, but for me personally, i've always thought that two things can both be true:

-it can be true that it's unfortunate that harry and folks like him get so much attention for doing the same stuff that billy porter and other queer folks and people of color have been doing for years 

-and it can also be true that because of what people like billy porter have done, it's now seen as mainstream for cis men who date women to wear dresses and such. and at the end of the day, if there are ~6 year old gay dudes out there who feel more comfortable with their desire to wear different things because some heartthrob pop star is doing it, then isn't that a good thing? i get why it's upsetting to folks like billy, but at the end of the day isn't that the place we are trying to get to in the long run?

His original statement was only wrong because he

a) decided to take the piss out of Harry personally rather than question Vogue on a lack of racial diversity

b) brand Harry as straight when he's never identified himself as heterosexual and has been (at least) androgynous for years

c) apparently thinks he's the first man to ever wear a dress

Men wearing dresses shouldn't be seen as a 'queer identity' though. Isn't what we're fighting for, for clothes to be seen as just what they are - pieces of fabric that anyone can wear, regardless of identity? Harry wearing a dress says nothing about his sexuality, and that's the way it should be.

I find it really weird that some LGBTQ people claim they want it to be acceptable to wear whatever you want and express yourself however you feel comfortable, but suddenly are becoming gatekeepers saying that wearing certain clothes somehow belongs only to them.

I love how we constantly preach how we want to break down gender stereotypes and normalize people wearing and doing whatever they want without feeling like they have to comform... but then, when they do, the gays get mad... it’s almost like ‘okay do it BUT after me ok?’ If you can’t recognize that a straight man in a dress on the cover of a megazine is progress and is going to change so many mentalities about what masculinity means and the freedom it can give to so many people ( yes, straight people ) to stop living under the tight unwritten rules that their own history has created for them, than I am sorry for you and your narrow minded point of view. People don’t realize that when somebody puts somebody else in a box and has certain expectations from them ( straights to gays ), they indirectly put themselves outside that box and are expected to be everything but whats on the inside of it. Which is also unfair because some straight people wish to express themselves with some of the colors that are contained in that box too because it resonates to who they are. But of course our community has to make everything about self opression and unfair treatment without seeing the bigger picture. This helps people too because like it or not, we are all victimes of the same system, a system created when people didn’t know better and now the present polulation has to struggle with the effects and remains of it. Just like how feminism sets both the woman and man free, this conversation should include both the straights and the queers because we are all in pain.

I am sorry but Billy is not as big of a name as Harry and he does not appeal to as big of an audience as Harry does, especially with the younger ones so of course he will get the cover. Instead of always being mad at the celebrities that get the slice of cake or the corporations that give it, why don’t we all realise that the one that gets the cake is the one that WE the people stand by. Start being mad the the world for not recognizing Billy, not at Harry. In business you are given what you ask for, because the intention is to sell. And that is the case here with a fashion magazine, and Harry sells better than Billy. It ain’t Harry or Vogue’s fault, it’s the people’s. Be mad with the buyers not with the sellers and lets start taking responsability for US not participating in the bringing to the front of the ‘right’ people. Look ar Lil Nas X, he is gay af and is nr 1, because of US, and he gets all the claim and the fashion spreads and the interviews and the everything because we BUY IT. Do the same with Billy and you will get your cover.
