A female crew member has died and another injured following an accident involving a prop firearm on the New Mexico set of the film "Rust," according to a law enforcement statement provided to CNN.

The prop firearm was discharged by actor and producer Alec Baldwin, 68, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office.

The female victim was identified as director of photography Halyna Hutchins, 42, according to investigators. She was transported to the hospital via helicopter and pronounced dead by medical personnel at University of New Mexico Hospital.

The other victim, 48-year-old director Joel Souza, was transported to Christus St. Vincent's Regional Medical Center by ambulance for care. Details on his condition were not released.

"According to investigators it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged," a statement from authorities said. "Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged."

Was Ryan Reynolds’ career done for when a stunt woman died on the set of Deadpool 2?    I’m not quite understanding your logic.

Rube Rose just posted about someone getting paralyzed and someone else getting their face burned off on the set of Batwoman... these production companies need to do BETTER.

Why would it be? It was a prop malfunction, it's not his fault.

The prop department is going to face hell though :rip:

His mental health is going to be done for, probably.

But yeah, someone in the prop department is going to be totally done for.

Wtf  why was a prop gun loaded? Poor woman, I ache for her and her family but I also feel bad for Alec, it wasn't his fault and that's gotta be detrimental on his mental health and wellbeing.

That's truly horrible for everyone directly involved, but what kind of incompetents are running these film sets?

This is such a crazy situation! I was reading on reddit all the safety precautions that go in to using a gun on set and it’s very hard to see how this could have happened without some pretty significant negligence

Terrible for everyone involved

It was a blank misfire. Those guns are loaded with blanks.
