This needs to happen in the US too. I’ve seen posts in Facebook groups with teachers that don’t agree with using a students’ preferred gender/name. It makes me so irritated.

The amount of transphobia (and homophobia in general) in our field is so distressing :saladga:

So, while reading through the document, the pet names being called "gendered" refers to a legal precedent, where, outside of personal relationships, pet names like "sweetie" and "honey" are condescending and infantilizing, overwhelmingly used towards women to reinforce gendered hierarchy. So, not "socially" gendered language, more "professionally" gendered. Apparently, its an important distinction in discrimination cases.

They're normal part of the vernacular here in the south. I've been called honey and sweetie many times in my life and I've never taken offense. However, the context must be noted. A lot of men will use "sweetie" and "honey" in sexist manner when referring to a woman they feel is out of line.
