Dave Chappelle defends JK Rowling, calls himself a TERF

FFS!! Why on earth is it so hard for people to wrap their heads around the differences between sex and gender?! RuPaul said it best, you’re born naked and the rest is drag.

It has been nearly 8 years since I finished an MA program in sociology and we always talked about how sociology of gender is one of the cutting-edge fields. One where people are more married to the binary of gender, as such, professors frequently said this is a difficult area to challenge people on. Whereas dissecting racism is more digestible to the general public. 

Social change is painstakingly slow and, as a queer person, I loathe that part. I’m definitely afraid of the overt racism we’ve seen in the last 5 years. And if race is more readily talked about, I can only imagine the depths of prejudice that is in the more covert phobias of sex, gender, sexuality and so on. I’m sad to see continued scapegoating of the LGBTQ+ population. 

I guess my only silver lining is that it is ****ing rad to be in camaraderie with our queer comrades. Keep pissing off the hegemonic norms and systems! Let’s not ever assimilate to the heteronormative scripts and institutions!

I think what irks me about this whole situation (ignoring the conflation of sex and gender and many other ignorant this Chapelle has said) is that what does one gain from humoring these jokes? Dave Chapelle knows nothing about the trans community and is presumably not a part of it, so why does he think his humorous observations on it are necessary? Isn't comedy supposed to be punching upwards and an observation of absurdities in our own everyday lives? Leave the trans jokes to the trans comedians who have yet to exhaust topics for comedy

Dave Chappelle being politically incorrect shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone anymore. Only real problem with him is that he is just not very funny (he never was) and his jokes are lame and unoriginal.

I thinks he is misusing the word gender.

I think he is using it in place of Cis and Trans. 

Being "cis" is a fact and being "trans" is a fact. 

Just my opinion. If I'm wrong correct me please.  

I think he needs to do more homework when it comes to  JK Rowlings. 

If I remember correctly J.K. Rowlings was mad at a publication that called cis-women. "People who menstruate." They completely removed the word "woman." Like if they were just open gashes of blood. It's like reading a publication that only refered to trans-women as people born with a penis. They are both women. Why would one publication be trans-phobic but the other publication informative? 

I'm sorry but that is alarming. 

I don't know much about what she said after that or before that which is probably where all the transphobia came in. IMO in that one particular instance she was right. Like broken clock twice a day right. 

Also I think pūssy jokes are trash. They are either transphobic in this case or misogynistic if performed by a cis-man.

Ok 2 things

Just because someone "transitions", doesn't mean they are cis, right? They can choose to express their identity how they choose (for example an anatomical male "transitions" to female and then prefers their gender expression to be, let's say, fluid) or am I making it more complicated?

Dave Chapelle is always trash. But so is Netflix for releasing these specials. So is Bradley Cooper for putting him in his movie. So is anyone who supports him.

it 100% just looks like he is lacking awareness in this case. Which is pretty important for a comedian to be funny. This joke of his just misses the mark and is awkward to read or at the very least the lead up is.

Let's put aside his actual beliefs for a second.

Could you imagine if someone else made equivalent "jokes" about something as sensitive as race or religion? The show wouldn't even make it past post-production.
"Impossible ***?" Seriously? Imagine if he said black people shouldn't be called humans since there's no way two humans can be born with such differences in color. He would be lined up calling racism.
 

I'm so tired of protected groups being able to get away with hate and racism. It's just as damaging if a white straight male said the same thing. It's time we stop giving a pass.

Cancel this man and pull his "show."
