gumzy3000 7,385
Chromatica is a great pop album but the growth Dua Lipa showed in the Future Nostalgia era was massive compared to her first era. For that reason alone, I think she deserved the award and more. She literally improved her performances, vocals, and overall music by tenfold and I think its impressive, especially considering it is only her second album. At this point, critics are harder on Gaga because we know she has it in her to be outstanding but Chromatica was not really a massive growth or bold artistic choice when compared to her past. trolly troll troll
vanna shintuyu 10,833
Meh, Chromatica is contrived and it felt like her heart wasn't in it. She's even said as much. I've only ever liked a handful of songs from it and downright can't stand a few songs. I've been a huge Gaga fan since 2008 and love electronic and dance music. This album is just... bad to me. Future Nostalgia on the other hand is a great full vision with a lot of replay value.

LOVE JUNKIE 3,299
Always felt this way. FN is a good album, and some tracks are great, but others are... not so good. Chromatica is so much more consistent and really feels like a well fleshed out piece of art. But I wasn't surprised FN won. Award shows tend to favor the ingénue over more established female artists unless they really lean into awards-bait type of work. Plus more electronic/modern music tends not to do as well as music with a more "classic" appeal. Keep in mind over 70% of the recording academy is 40+, so an album that's more heavily referencial of bygone eras is going to go over better with that demo. on a three day bender
JRCF29 8,217
I respectfully disagree with this. Future Nostalgia is miles better than any other pop album released in at least the past five years. Chromatica is a solid, cohesive, well-produced and iconic album; but FN is a bona fide classic. It deserved the win, and it is the bar by which every MPG album will be judged for the considerable future (nostalgia). Don't Call Me Gaga

I don't understand this site's insistence on treating Chromatica as a flop with the GP. It is literally one of the most successful album eras of the past decade by almost any measure (here are a few): Charts Sold 274,000 units in first week, debuting at #1 on the BB200 41 total weeks on BB200 Two Top-5 singles (Stupid Love, #4; Rain on Me ft. Ariana Grande, #1) Top-40 single (Sour Candy ft. BLACKPINK, #33) Non-single charting track (Alice, #84) Music Videos Four 50M+ Music Videos (911, 68M; Sour Candy (audio), 106M; Stupid Love, 144M; Rain on Me, 336M) Fan-Voted/Determined Awards 3 fan-voted MTV VMAs for 2020 (Artist, Song, Collaboration) AMA for Dance/Electronic Artist of the Year (+3 nominations) 2 BBMAs for 2021 (Top Dance Album, Artist) (+2 nominations) I'm often guilty of it too, but we can't continue to expect any future Gaga era to live up to the TFM/BTW time period: She was literally the biggest, most influential celebrity in the world at the time and it's unreasonable to demand that she be that again a decade later. While it certainly would have been a much stronger era if the surprise Coachella performance had gone ahead, and the billboard campaigns weren't to empty streets, it was by no means a flop Don't Call Me Gaga

I love Chromatica but let's be honest, the production sometimes is all over the place FN is rich and it will age like fine as such an amazing pop experience from start to finish. It's pretty forgotten tbh it's teenagers that don't know of more music and have Dua Lipa as a new goddess of music. That album had 2 bops, the rest is bland ¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula? dzox 552
FN was everywhere. I dont think the GP really know chromatica as much as FN except for that one song that features ariana.
