Chromatica is more 90’s house music, some 80’s ish inspired (Stupid Love, Babylon). So here’s the thing…Chromatica winning Best Pop Vocal…I could see it but was I expecting it? No. Future Nostalgia was the one main pop girl album of 2020 that got a ton of promo between the live performances, the virtual concert, and about 8 music videos total (DSN, Physical, BMH, Levitating, Hallucinate, Love Again, Fever even though Love Again came out this year and Fever was well after the original release and then We’re Good to promote The Moonlight Edition). Dua Lipa worked her ass off to give people an immersive experience at a time where we could really only enjoy it at home, maybe a small gathering, and that’s it. No clubs, no parties, nothing. Chromatica shines because it talks about serious topics (Fun Tonight, 911, Replay, 1000 Doves). The sad part is that visually, Gaga would have destroyed all her competition…but her priorities were elsewhere and more than likely due to safety concerns thanks to this sloppy pandemic. Had she given us videos for a total of 5 or 6 tracks, more performances outside of the VMAs and just more acknowledgment of Chromatica as a whole then yes absolutely she would have been a strong contender for that award. In my mind, Dua Lipa rightfully deserved it and her hard work paid off. Besides, Gaga has like 12 Grammy Awards. She’s already cemented her legacy in the industry, so there’s always next time. Dua did all things right: promo, singles, videos, performances - she served and fed up the gays. I'm happy that she won.
