Remains Believed to Belong to Missing Woman in Van Mystery Are Found

The authorities said they had found human remains in Wyoming consistent with a description of Gabrielle Petito, 22.

The authorities continue to search for her fiancé, Brian Laundrie. She was reported missing after he returned home alone from a cross-country van trip.

he returned without her for almost 10 days actually. i dont think he went missing until it came to light he was home without notifying her parents etc

I didn’t realize it was so long. I knew he had returned home without her.

I’m sorry…any boyfriend in love or not, would still have an small part of him to care about his lover/ ex lover. He knows more then he says. And so does his family. 💅 Tragic.

His status was person of interest so police can't arrest him until he is a suspect.

Police need to have presented the judge with sufficient evidence to justify a probable cause arrest, and so they are using the term "person of interest" in order to keep their options open with the public.

Brian Laundrie, a Long Island native, is Gabrielle Petito’s fiancé and a “person of interest” in her disappearance, as he was the last person known to have been with her before she went missing, according to the authorities.

He had returned to his house in North Port, Fla., on Sept. 1 in the white Ford van that he and Ms. Petito used in their cross-country journey, which started on July 2.

At the time, Mr. Laundrie exercised his constitutional right not to speak with the authorities, Chief Garrison said.

But on Sept. 17, Mr. Laundrie’s parents summoned the police to their home in North Port and told them that they had not seen Mr. Laundrie in three days.

Investigators then started a search for Mr. Laundrie at the Carlton Reserve, a 25,000-acre park about 13 miles from North Port, and where police said his family believes he traveled to. As of Sunday night, there were no reports from police that he had been found.
