Right??? Thats why I never understand Pitchfork ratings. They seem so arbitrary.

It's because 1 person writes the review but the whole staff gives a rating.

That last paragraph is shady AF. :interestinga:

How so? It’s acknowledging what the album was intended to do by Gaga’s own words lmao it’s a moment to uplift and celebrate younger queer artists. They even say her legacy is still taking shape, which it is, but I think it’s apt to say that this is her attempt at the “mentorship” she talked about and helping young artists get their careers

Lady Gaga and Bloodpop® didn't need to host listening parties at Mercedes Benz stadium to get that .7 :billie:

"It’s this context that makes Dawn of Chromatica feel less like a celebration of a world-beating record and more like passing the torch." they make it sound like a retirement:cryga:

They use the phrase "passing the torch" which does not -- for me -- suggest good feelings about Gaga's standing in the music biz.

I am reminded similarly of that article NYTimes article where they remark how ironic it is that Gaga is doing the national anthem but Bey is running the show.

It's the same idea, like, whenever she isn't culturally resetting, she's DOA.

Club Future Nostalgia is so good, and miles better than DoC but you wouldn't undestand it

meanwhile CFN sounds like an actual body of work, DoC sounds just like a collection of songs with no relation whatsoever

It seems like a low score, but I think it's actually pretty high for a collection of remixes that are bound to have a range in quality depending on taste.

Everyone has an opinion.  Pitchfork is one opinion, but it's the pop listening public's opinions that counts.

I live outside the space time continuum.

That makes no sense because the review could read like the writer gave it a 10 but then the average rating is gonna be way lower? Get it together Pitchfork :laughga:

what kind of weird take?

CFN sounds precisely like a random spotify playlist.

Eh I took it more as it’s clear her interest isn’t really in doing dance pop forever. We all know this by this point. So “passing the torch” makes sense. None of these musicians are doing what she’s doing rn between genre-spanning albums and Oscar movie campaigns.

Gaga was once these hungry mfs but she isn’t anymore. She’s really in her own lane so saying “passing the torch”, to me, is acknowledging that she’s well beyond cutting her teeth in the business and that she’s giving that to other artists via this album

Nearly a 7 for a remix album! That's not bad at all, their taste, it's showing and not only in the DOC score... :partysick:
