She was physically abused by her grandmother, lost siblings to AIDS and addiction, and overcame her own addiction issues. She grew up in a house with no running water or electricity, had "pet" cockroaches, and wore literal potato sacks for clothing. Yet she managed to persevere, and while she has made some problematic missteps, I think it's obvious her contribution to our society has been positive. I'm not sure it's helpful to begrudge a victim for finding success in a system that exploited them so horrifically.
