SharkmanthaC 115,233
Honestly I'm surprised it isn't more. We've had so many cases just in the first week of school and these children can't get vaccinated yet. The federal and state government is pushing hard to have in person learning, but I see us having to go back to virtual for awhile. she/her/hers

The CDC saying vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks back in May created a situation where businesses made masks optional *for vaccinated people* but had no way of enforcing a policy that checks if someone actually is vaccinated. This caused many unvaccinated people to go maskless and spread the virus. It was known Delta was beginning to spread in the summer. By July it skyrocketed in part thanks to this CDC guidance which did not take into consideration the behavior of everyone. ”Honor system” in the US? A joke. So in this sense, this surge in cases is in part the CDC’s fault. I do get that but honestly what unvaccinated people were wearing masks at that point anyways? From somebody who worked in retail at the time, I regularly saw people who were unvaccinated come into the store without masks starting way back in February. And corporate informed us not to get involved with punishment for breaking said rule to include termination. The root of the issue is an individual's "rights" , moreso their entitlement, ignorance, and selfishness. Other countries don't have the issue we do with anti-maskers to the same degree because not many countries push such an individualistic culture. Their cultures push for collectivism and thus see their people adhere to mask mandates for the greater good. Americans think they're being deprived of rights by being made to wear a mask which is also why companies don't enforce their mandates to the same degree and why when they do they're accused of infringing on rights. There's really no more mandating the administration can do without looking like they're depriving people of rights and that puts him in a horrible position. We can blame the administration for failing to push enough policy, but Biden rolled out vaccines much more effectively and timely than Trump would have. This probably wouldn't even be such a huge issue had Trump and his train of Trump bff politicians not downplayed the virus and masks for an entire year for no reason other than to divide America.
