Tho both vaccines are highly effective against severe desiese, when it came to preventing infection entirely, Moderna had 76% effectiveness at preventing symptomatic infection vs only 42% for pfizer

 

This study was not a small one, it has tracked tens of thousands of people over months

I wish we had Moderna in my country tbh. I am fully vaxxed with Pfizer and I'm very grateful obviously because it's still a very good vaccine at the end of the day, but I would have loved a higher protection with how things are going here and how careless people are being.

i was supposed to get moderna, but my dad messed up the dates, so we ended up getting pfizer  thanks dad 

im still happy with pfizer though

I mean these numbers can also get fuzzy. Depending on which variant is most dominant where study was done, which shots were given in greater quantity in what time etc hence why many studies contradict others

 

A small hypathetical example. Say both are in fact roughly the same across the board but a variant moderna is better for specifically was more dominant where study was done, and to add to that more pfizer shot supply was available during a period in time where cases in general were higher hence that automatically increases chance of getting infection... but then maybe more moderna supply was on hand when cases were lower locally

 

A variable like this would automatically tilt the study results in favour of moderna even tho its not intentional meddling. So these numbers gotta be taken with a grain of salt. U gotta look at many studies in many different areas to reacha  more firm conclusion if one is in fact better

 

Hence why i wrote according to a study. Its not a fact

 

I wouldnt worry too much. The vaccines are very simmilar. They do in fact have subtle differences and moderna may be better for some of these variants but the level of overall protection difference likely isnt huge

 

When it comes to preventing severe diesiese both are almost 99% effective which is what matters most

Its also about safety and trial scheduling etc. One getting approved first doesnt automatically mean its better or worse...

 

Pfizer also developed one first... so it may simply be more ahead in the process that moderna still has to go thru regardless of whether or not moderna may be slightly better
