alsemanche 97,799
Europe and the US create refugees around the world then refuse them in their countries and pretend they're harmful for them. Every single time. Let's not forget what happened in Syria. Then they start crying over photos of drowned or orphaned children while doing nothing to change the conditions leading to those deaths and miseries (conditions created by them in the first place). Soft, soothing, and succulent

What responsibility does the (former) Afghan government have here, in your opinion?
Guest
It’s actually not what he said.. even if it’s not really welcoming for refugees, what he says is that we have to control refugees flow for everyone safety (including the safety of refugees). France has always welcomed refugees and people have tried to misinterpret what he said for political reasons as the presidential election campaign in France is just starting. It's something the U.S. provokes in the first place and then expects help from everyone in Europe while then arguing that they shouldn't take refugees. It offloads that responsibility on European countries which creates tensions between the refugees and the citizens of the host country. So yes Europe contributes but the U.S. plays a disproportionately large hand in all of this.
Stanley Digaga 975
The title is misleading. He said that France will continue to protect the most endangered people but that the migrant flow must be regluated. So this means that the border won't be completely open but some Afghan refugees will still be welcome in France.

In terms of other countries accepting or rejecting refugees not much in my opinion. What they have to answer for and what the western nations, especially the US, have to answer for aren't the same thing.

If you really think no Afghan refugee will come to France because of what he said you are the naive one here. I don't think there is a single country in Europe that said they will welcome every refugees, it would have bad consequences for the country. Of course you can argue that it will still be better that the situation Afghan refugees are living but it seems like a big sacrifice to do and hard for the people to understand when no other country is doing it (that's why he said that EU should take actions). Also there are presidential election in France next year so the way Macron says things is part of his campaign, he needs to reassure people that what happens in Afghanistan won't affect France too much. Saying he doesn't want Afghan refugees in his country would actually be a bad move as it sounds like a far-right statement and far-right (Marine Lepen) is most likely to be his main opposition next year. Economy 52,845
Why is French culture so consistently hostile to different cultures? In France they have been agressive against certain relugious wears that arent even harmful (remember video of woman at the beach and officers made her strip her headwear in front of everyone?) Here in Canada Quebec is pushing for simmilar laws to ban anything of the sort in workplaces. Anything that isnt typical white culture neutral clothing is considered unacceptable Like i understand banning burqa and stuff like that for safety reasons. But theres other stuff that literally doesnt have to affect anyone else plus a lot of these wears are also cultural too, many ppl who arent all that religious still wear some of these things cuz its CULTURAL

Control is one thing but this kind od language usualy also implies lack of support and that they dont really want the refugees coming in even if they end up accepting some Good chance France will take in some but not be particularly accomodating or making their integration and set up into society a perticular priority. Very often thats what ends up happening when "control" is the first thing the government seems to be concerned about

Those horrific attacks have traumatized a lot of French people.
