What's your carbon footprint?

The SciShow channel on YouTube posted a video about the latest findings on climate change. A bit of bad news but there is hope :vegas:

They're also sponsored by Wren. You don't have to donate or subscribe to them but they have a neat tool on their site that lets you estimate your carbon footprint.

Here's mine :bear:

This is what I've got:

Your carbon footprint

6,2

tons of CO₂ per year

That's 36 % less than the Germany average.

(I didn't include travelling by plane because of Covid - I haven't been on a plane for about 2 years -  but in "normal times" I'd travel by plane (short distance) 2-4 times a year. So normally my carbon footprint would be a bit higher

I hate the carbon footprint thing when climate change can only be truly stopped if we stop the big corporations :bear:

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

This is all very interesting, and it's good to remain informed, but I'm not going to feel guilty about my personal carbon footprint when I try my best to be sustainable within my own means, and when billion dollar companies are the ones doing 90% of the worlds pollution. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and all that.

Also the personal carbon footprint was invented by BP to offset the guilt onto the average person and divert attention away from big corporations like themselves. Yes the BP who had the massive oil spill in 2010. BP's annual carbon footprint is something like 370 million tonnes a year.

Here's a chart of the 20 firms that are responsible for 1/3 of the entire world's carbon emissions

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/09/revealed-20-firms-third-carbon-emissions

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

:cryga:

I live alone, and I'm lucky enough that work/school is close enough for me to walk to, and the other times I just take public transit if I have to because I don't own a car. Tbh capitalism makes it nearly impossible for us to lower the carbon footprint by ourselves in most places, so I don't blame y'all

Your footprint is 3.5 tons of CO₂ per year.
(0.7 times the world average)

Based on your responses, you could become carbon neutral for
€4.50 / month.

I did it as it is right now, in pandemic times though :bear: No plane trips or anything. I'll redo a "normal" one.

Edit:

Your footprint is 4.8 tons of CO₂ per year.
(1 times the world average)

Based on your responses, you could become carbon neutral for
€6.10 / month.

So now they're blaming us when it's the big corporations the ones responsible for the major issue :bear:
