Orlando residents asked to limit water usage to help Covid-19 patients

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer is asking residents to conserve water because liquid oxygen, used to treat the community's water supply, is needed to treat the surge of Covid-19 patients in the community. 

"Nationally, the demand for liquid oxygen is extremely high as the priority for its use is to save lives," the mayor said in a Facebook post on Friday.

To reduce demand, the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) asked customers to immediately limit watering their lawns and landscapes, take short showers, repair leaking faucets and toilets, stop washing their vehicles and performing "non-critical activities" like pressure washing, the municipal utility said in a notice.

OUC said it is "difficult to determine" how long shortages of liquid oxygen will last, "because it is tied to the number of COVID-19 patients being treated in hospitals with oxygen." When those hospitalizations decline, the liquid oxygen supply will likely increase, according to the utility company. 

"This is another impact of the virus continuing to surge in our community," the mayor said in his post. "And it's another result of what happens when residents do not get the vaccine and become critically ill, needing medical support and treatment."

Orlando resident here. It’s bad right now. Sadly, when I go to the grocery store there are still so many that don’t wear masks - few are taking this seriously. Restaurants are full, malls are busy, etc. It’s scary being here right now but I know this will pass soon. Luckily, vaccine rates are boosting again and our positive rate / case count has stabilized a bit.

Same here in Miami, I see more people without masks than with masks whenever I have to leave the house, the people here are so very careless and clearly don't care.

It's honestly tragic. They just shut a school down today in my town because so many kids have covid and DeStantis told every school board with a mask mandate they have 48 hours to drop it or they'll have their funding pulled. And any relief from the federal DOE will be matched in fines from the state of FL (so if a super intendant has their $100k salary paid for by the federal government, DeSantis will fine them $100k directly until the mask mandate is dropped). That cannot f*cking be legal.

The worst part is I'm taking care of my grandpa and I know if he has a heart attack, stroke, COPD flare, diabetes issue, or god forbid I bring covid home despite how careful I am, he's dead. There is no hospital available. 911 calls for ambulances are being refused.

I'm at the point where I say anybody who is able to be vaccinated but isn't vaccinated should just be left to die of their own stupidity. Literally refuse THEM medical care, not other people who can't get care due to all the beds being full. Other people are losing their lives or having to give up even basic things like running water, public school, and emergency services for those selfish pricks.

When I last got a covid test there was another line for vaccines and it was long. So that's reassuring, a bit.

It’s sad that so many are getting vaccinated now simply because they’ve seen family and friends die from this. At this point, 95% of deaths are preventable. Our governor does nothing.

Yup. And so many nurses and doctors are sharing their stories about dying patients that beg for the vaccine but it's way too late for it.

That makes me so sad and angry.

I had to bring my stepdad to the ER yesterday (he had surgery a few weeks ago, but the nurse was concerned about his incision site, and his surgeon asked him to go to the ER), and we had to wait for 5 hours. I live in a bluish northern state, not Florida, and we're not even swamped with Covid yet, and still, we had to wait so long. People don't realize the domino effect of the uptick in Covid cases. 

I hope your grandpa stays safe and that things get better soon. Death Santis is no better than a war criminal as far as I'm concerned.

I am so fxking sick that some of these people had to politicize this situation than actually being decent for once. 
 

Imagine the party who always using their children as excuse to pass archaic laws, rather to see children in their states die than letting them using masks and get vaccinated. These people are beyond help. So aggravating.

If you're unvaxxed? I simply no longer care. I know that's cold. I don't want to feel this way. It goes against my nature. I feel terrible for medical workers and for those who are vaxxed and then get breakthrough infections. But for the rest? My give-a-sh** meter is out of order.
