I think that is beautiful. There is so many things to discover about yourself as you travel through life.

Also they just seem so much more happy and less trapped in their head now.

HONEY IS BACK ON THE DRUGS, YOU CAN'T TEMPORARILY BE TRANS

what they might mean is they feel like they're masc, or feel like a man one day, that doesn't make them trans, they're non binary which means their gender could mean anything (ARTPOP teas)

You could just not say anything instead of saying you won't :interestinga:

That's like me going to your profile and posting "I'm not going to wp you. I'm not going to wp you. I'm NOT going to wp you." :ohwell:

not demi talking about being trans as it were phase or hat you put on while you feel like it... :enigma:

Exactly my issue. I honestly feel like they don't ever stop to think about what they're about to say. I get a feeling they say things for shock value/to be talked about. I feel like they JUST RECENTLY learned about all this and it excites their way of thinking so they're trying to "stand out".

I am all for people doing what they feel is right for them. But for those of us who had no choice to be gay or trans? And had to deal with the fallout of truly being gay or trans as kids and young adults?

I know it shouldn't, but it feels like a real slap in the face. Like they is being super flippant about stuff that was life or death for many of us. Like, it's not a trend for us. Or a new jacket.

Like, why can't they just say that they are on a journey of self discovery and leave trans stuff out of it?

Eh, I know it isn't a big deal, but it irks me.

I’m someone who’s followed Demi through the years, the highs and lows. Gained respect for them and lost it and vice versa. My worry with Demi is their inconsistency has proved quite prevalent in the past and this current statement just makes me feel like they’re having an identity crisis more than anything. There’s nothing wrong with that and you can always ask for help. But damn, we gonna jump the ship to “trans” possibly? I can’t take someone seriously when their actions and words lack consistency. And while yes we can certainly change how we identify as time goes on, but do they really need to put it out there when that time hasn’t come yet? Live an organic life and let things happen when they do, speaking about identity like it’s a menu makes them sound pretentious.

It kind of just feels like a cover in case they ever change their mind about how they feel. Gender fluid is a bit more definitive if they were to identify as that but to say right now I'm non-binary and we'll see how I feel later? Yikes.

I feel the same but am never sure whether saying this will be perceived as transphobic so I'm glad to see a trans person lay it out there.

Demi just seems too run their mouth off about a lot of things. They seem pretty impulsive (that froyo incident 🤦‍♀️) There's been a few threads here today wondering why Gaga doesn't speak out on every matter. I'm actually relieved that she has evolved from bring super outspoken to having her chosen cause(s) that she feels passionate about, has experienced and has educated herself in  - mental health - bc it's not really the climate to just run your opinions off unless you KNOW what you're talking about, especially as a public person.

To be completely honest, to me it sounds like they're inventing "genderfluid" :udidnt:

Spoiler

This is in no way shade, but that's honestly the first thing that came to my mind :green:

Except....yes you can lol. Trans identity is anything different from assigned gender at birth. Gender for many people is fluid. Identity isn't a fixed thing. Some people detransition or start to identify with their assigned gender at birth. This assumes that there is only binary gender. Not just cis people are binary. Trans men and women are trans-binary. Not all nonbinary people identify as trans, but it is a transgender identity. I'm genderqueer-agender and identify as trans. I do see this being my most acccurate truth and can't see it changing but that's not the case for everyone. You can be trans for a moment in time and then identify as cis again. It's not so much a "choice" as it is life simply taking course and your life experience changing. This kind of statement negates valid trans experiences. Transgender identify is beautiful and nuanced and it's not so simple to just say "you can't temporarily be trans."

Horny Chicken

I remember when she/ they first came out as non binary, many people here were having doubts about her/ them being serious because Demi had had a bad track record of doing things for attention. Many of the comments were along the lines of : I respect and accept non binary people but Demi Lovato is a question mark..

The inconsistency seen here is not a good look because it affirms many people’s initial doubt.

i'm aware of all of this i too am trans, but non-binary is an identity that allows the individual to express their true freedom. trans is short for transitioning, so unless you are actually transitioning into your true identity (in whatever end goal that ends up being), being temporarily trans for whatever purpose, especially if it's to identify differently to their sex, it's still non binary.

One single thing. At some point, they should just keep that to themselves and to their loved ones

Or it is a game for them
