The Miami-Dade County Public School Board has officially voted to implement a mask mandate for the upcoming school year.

School board members voted 7-1 on Wednesday in favor of a mask mandate with an option to opt-out for medical reasons.

The decision came after hours of public comment from parents.

“The parents in favor of the mask mandate are the majority on this matter,” said a parent.

Board members voted 7-1 to enforce the mask mandate for the upcoming school year except for children who are granted a medical exemption.

Lubby Navarro was the sole member to vote against the mandate.

That's my district. I think it's necessary since we're going full capacity, at least for a couple months until everything dies down. But really happy to be back in a semi-normal teaching environment! Can't wait till masks aren't needed anymore, hopefully by the end of the year.

I'm not in school anymore and I forgot it's getting to back-to-school time. I can't imagine the stress this whole situation has put on kids and their parents.

I would hate the added social pressure among my peers during this time.. like maybe only "losers" wear masks or smth idk wish for all the best. Great decision from the board

Also from Miami-Dade. I'm really hoping the cases don't blow up, but at least the mask mandate is something.
