Let people dislike whatever they dislike and move on with your life clearly aimed at me, just saying, i wasn't saying people aren't allowed to dislike non-pop songs, i was saying that people will often instantly write off a song just because it isn't a pop song. people will call songs disappointing just because they're slower/not pop when realistically the sound has nothing to do with quality. you're allowed to dislike non-pop songs, it's just maddening when people refuse to broaden their horizons beyond what they've heard before from an artist. the ones who need to move on with their lives are the ones who trash every slower album with comments of 'it all sounds the same' or 'snoozefest'. it happened with folklore and now it's happening with solar power. just because you don't like something, it doesn't mean it can't be objectively good. I love Lorde so much and Melodrama became one of my favorite albums of all time but maybe because I wasn't expecting anything from her that it blew me away from start to finish. Solar Power is a beautiful album but right now I don't think I'm going back to listen to it. Mood Ring and Oceaning Feeling are the best songs but wow I wanted every song to finish already. I'm a little disappointed, going from Melodrama to Solar Power was like Norman Rockwell to Chemtrails or Born This Way to Joanne. Not a bad album but don't really feel satisfied. This is a different trajectory for our Lorde (she's not our savior apparently as per The Path lol) but if this is what she wanted, I'll definitely support her growth. Some of the songs are not for me but I also felt this way for NFR but now it's my favorite LDR album. People are allowed to have differing opinions and that's okay. I myself need some time for the album. It's a vibe and has its beauty. It's just not as in-your-face as Melodrama but I appreciate it for what it is. Galagala 4,599 Posted August 20, 2021 Share Posted August 20, 2021 My favorite: Fallen Fruit, California, Stoned at a Nail Salon, The Path I thought it could be AoTY before listening to it because I love the slow breezy vibes from previous singles. But I'm a bit underwhelmed now, after first listen. Few standout refreshing singles and while there's great consistency, most songs are doing nothing for me.
