You are probably the first person I've seen who understood the assignment of solar power 🤣 smoke and just contemplate your life and find your peace while sitting on a beach in the sun. I plan on listening tomorrow at the beach while I smoke... let's be real, the reason a lot have hated solar power and SATNS is cuz they don't live that vibe lifestyle.

@Mars @FudgeyBear Cheers ladies :classy:

This album is amazing. Very Joni Mitchell, I'm living

Good morning beautiful people

I managed to listen to this piece of work right after I woke up. I’m here to tell you my honest opinion about this album. Lorde did it once again. I love every single second of this album. Of course, there are songs that are better than the other(s), but I really love listening to this album. I haven’t skipped any song on my first listening session.

That’s it. That’s the morning message.

I just finished Fallen Fruit and I can already say this is a very "coming of age" transitional album. It reminds me a lot of Joni Mitchell's observational lyrics. Maybe it's because I'm in my 30s but I LOVE this vibe.

The production is top notch and I'm ready to go join the cult :vegas:

EDIT: I'm genuinely shook that she's only 24. She's an impeccable songwriter (we been knew) but for real

So sick of people talking down to anyone who enjoys pOpBoPs... you're on a lady gaga website. Get over yourself. Let people dislike whatever they dislike and move on with your life

The same people who drag Gaga if she doesn't make a pop album lmao

Cute album, but I won't listen to it again.

"But how can I love what I know I am going to lose?
Don't make me choose"

This part from Fallen Fruit really hits close to him :fatcat:

Soft, soothing, and succulent

I like the happy, summer, chill-out vibe I get from it but yeah, some songs feel like fillers. I don't like the Taylor Swift vibes I get from songs such as Secret from a Girl (I love Robyn, such a waste), The Man with the Axe, or even Fallen Fruit. The Path, Mood Ring, Oceanic Feeling are the highlighters for me.

Big Star is also a cute, great song. I don't know why nobody is talking about it. I now understand exactly how she felt about her dog, and I completely understand why she delayed the album's release. Wow!  :bradley:

Leader of a New Regime is so funny. I liked that one very much. I loved the character (the female pop star who takes the magazines and goes to the jungle after the apocalypse).

I understand why some people are not enjoying it as much as Melodrama. It doesn't feel as cohesive as that one. However, I feel like the critics are being way too harsh on Lorde. It's still one of the best works put out this year.

The album starts so strong and ends strong but the middle is kinda bland. I mean, it will take a few listens until some tracks start to stand out for sure.

The Path, Mood Ring and Solar Power are my top 3

The tracks which stood out for me were California Fallen Fruit and Oceanic Feeling

I wish there were more beachy tracks maybe with the sounds of waves and seagulls

These comments prove it's as divisive as the insiders said it was going to be. Taken from the Solar Power discussion thread:

· Will be hugely acclaimed by the critics, some fans will be divided, the synth-bop stans will be disappointed and jump the ship, some complaints will be "all of the album sounds the same, there are no Green Lights or bangers", stoners will love this album, it's a mature natural direction for her to take, no teen drama or messiness, incredibly wise and confident, surprise background vocalists etc.

· Lorde's new album doesn't sound anything like Pure Heroine or Melodrama. She moved on from that sound and the fans looking for that kind of edgy teen sound will have to stick with Olivia. The sonic shift will be jarring and divisive.

· It's her take on NFR!

I like it and see the grower potential. There's a wisdom in her lyrics that I can personally relate to, and feel like it echoes what I feel and how I see things at this point in my life

We love a visionary queen :hor:

clearly aimed at me, just saying, i wasn't saying people aren't allowed to dislike non-pop songs, i was saying that people will often instantly write off a song just because it isn't a pop song. people will call songs disappointing just because they're slower/not pop when realistically the sound has nothing to do with quality. you're allowed to dislike non-pop songs, it's just maddening when people refuse to broaden their horizons beyond what they've heard before from an artist.

the ones who need to move on with their lives are the ones who trash every slower album with comments of 'it all sounds the same' or 'snoozefest'. it happened with folklore and now it's happening with solar power. just because you don't like something, it doesn't mean it can't be objectively good.

This forum's favorite artist beside Gaga is Lana Del Rey (you can check the rate we did) so it's not like most people hate slow music. A slow album can be a snoozefest not because it's slow but because it's simply a snoozefest. What I'm criticizing is that when someone dislikes a slow album, they're immediately painted as "you only want mindless bawps" which is just not the case, and even if it were, so what? You literally said: everyone who didn't like the album was after pop bops. This narrative needs to stop. Not every slow album is a masterpiece that can only be appreciated by those of finer taste, and not every pop fan likes every pop album - they can equally be upbeat snoozefests. It's just another form of music elitism. Also, you may have commented right before I made my comment but it wasn't necessarily aimed at you, there's a lot of people with your same opinion.

Secrets from a Girl best song from the album

The lyrics hit me so hard :cryga:

Couldn't wait to turn fifteen

Then you blink and it's been ten years

Growing up a little at a time, then, all at once

Everybody wants the best for you
But you've gotta want it for yourself

Stoned at the Nail Salon remai s one of my favorites (I actually think I love it more in the album).

Same, same

I even enjoyed Solar Power much more within the album
