Critically endegered bird reemerges after it was thought to be extinct

After a bird native to Hawaii was thought to be dead for more than a year and a half, its distinct song recently rang through the leeward slopes of Haleakala.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said the discovery of a lone kiwikiu was made Wednesday after it was found chirping in a gulch of koa trees.

“There were a bunch of other birds singing and I thought I heard in the distance among other calls — a kiwikiu song. I didn’t quite believe it, didn’t expect to hear it for sure,” said Zach Pezzillo, a researcher with the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project.

The bird's re-emergence shows the potential for the species to recover—and highlights the grave threats posed by factors like climate change and rampant, invasive disease.

"This bird has been exposed to disease, as the others were, and has somehow persevered," explained Dr. Mounce in the Facebook statement. "This is an amazing sign of hope for the species as we still may have time to save them."

The passenger pigeon is extinct since the early 1900s, so low chances to just reappear.. However, it is possible for it to be brought back to life using preserved DNA. I was watching an Youtube video about a while ago it.

Yeah, I hope they can clone one, I love doves and Pigeons and I hope to see this one in my lifetime.

Maybe just me, but why does it reminds me with the yellow bird in Angry Birds?? Like, it looks similiar!
