REALITY 80,298
Not some of y'all LMAOing the OP and thinking this move is "extreme." New Zealand is one of the very, very few countries to actually have control over the pandemic. Y'all laugh at their choices, but then look at what y'all's countries are doing rn. Guest
This is how it shouldve started from the start? One case, you lock it all down, maybe we wouldnt be in this mess we are now. It's good leadership yeah it looks extreme but that type of decision is just logical to me. If there's one single case of something thats virulant, why not one lockdown, and then no more of them. Much more efficient than letting it get to 1K and then you're like, oh good, we hit our target let's lock it all up!

Meanwhile Japan is on fire basically. 6000 people a day in Tokyo… just keeps getting worse. That's because Japan have freedom law where locking down or forcing citizens to do something is not constitutional. I don't see it slowing down in Japan as with many other countries in Earth tbh. Lucas 31,573
They're doing the right thing. People who find it too extreme are underestimating how fast this virus spreads. Better do this and go back to normal life than going into a crisis that can last months/years

So MAYBE, having a hard lockdown right now is better than having to deal with continuous soft lockdowns. We can talk again as soon as enough people are vaccinated. In my country the situation is manageable even though we have over 2.000 new cases a day. We still have measures in place, of course, but due to the amount of vaccinated people, we can kinda live our lives again like before the pandemic. I do not want to criticise NZ, but if they weren't so behind with vaccinating people, a hard lockdown wouldn't be necessary. So saying that "EVERY" country should following NZ's strategy does not make sense in my opinion, given the different circumstances. Especially since you will get like an ongoing lockdown forever if you go into a hard lockdown just based on one case, like I said.
