I mean the work speaks for itself, that's why people were quick to defend it. What's funny about this is that not only did she revitalize interest in the movie but she also got people to see through the pretentiousness and the senselessness of her statements and got beyonce dragged in the process too

If you listen to her entire quote she is right with her opinion in that more diversity and originality, even inside of a remake, would have been better. However, the way she phrased it and the way beyhive twitter accounts used it to fuel hate towards Gaga has led us to where we are now. They all should have just sat there and minded their business but since they couldn't they can enjoy the general public dragging their favs and praising Gaga because it's what she deserves

She did but not necessarily criticism on Gagz and Bradley but rather on the whole movie concept itself.

 

She probably meant well but such kind of statement will inevitably cause a bad PR to Gaga and Bradley indirectly, especially she mentioned other stars

Actually, Barbra said the exact same thing in an interview with Variety in FEB 2018, BEFORE the movie came out. 🙂 She did watch Gaga and Bradley shoot the movie in 2017, she said it's good.

Barbra said in both interviews that a remake with a MULTIRACIAL cast (Beyoncé and Will Smith) and RAP music would be very different from her version - not that it would be better than Gaga and Bradley's version.

Last year, she revisited her past when she was invited to the set of Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born.” She watched a few scenes being shot, including ones where Lady Gaga plays her former character. “It’s good,” says Streisand. “I don’t want to talk about it because I don’t want to spook it. I can’t believe that was 40-some years ago. I think he did a wonderful job with her.” 

Originally, Beyoncé had been in talks for the Streisand role. “I thought when it was going to be done it was going to be very different and have a MULTIRACIAL cast, and the music was going to be RAP,” she says. “But it’s more like the movie I made.” - Variety, Feb 2018

They made the interview go viral?? Barbra DRAGGED Beyoncé (for her 2008 Kennedy Center Honors performance) in the same interview (at 4:05). 🙂 Beyoncé had to sing the song twice, she didn't think the first take was good enough. 

Streisand's first eyebrow-raising answer came when Wilkinson asked about the tribute Beyonce had performed when Streisand received her Kennedy Centre honour in 2008.

Wilkinson set Streisand up to offer a gushing compliment about Beyonce's "magical" rendition of her song The Way We Were, asking the entertainment legend: "Was that as powerful as it looked?"

"Well, she first sang it once, and I didn't think it was good enough, for her. I always think like a director, and I want the best for my actors and singers. I know she DID IT OVER, and she did it beautifully the second time," she revealed.

Wilkinson asked if Beyonce knew Streisand didn't think the first take of the performance was up to scratch.

"I think she knew it. I think she was the one who actually asked to do it over." 

To be fair, Barbra said Will Smith and Beyoncé's version (with minority actors and rap music) would have been very different from her version - not that it would be better than Gaga and Bradley's.
