If they are able to, I wish the immigrants could come to Brazil. Even though we are going through a economic crisis our country has always been a place with open doors to many nationalities.

A “million” withdrawals from Afghanistan could lead to many different outcomes. When the US withdrew from Afghanistan, there should have been more structure in place and more intentionality in how it exited so that the Afghan military could have maintained its position. That said, I don’t know what those systems should have been, since I’m certainly not an expert in military operations. 

With the result we’re seeing unfold, I can’t help but think of all of the lives lost fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan only for the country to still fall to them. 

In either case, my heart goes out to the people of Afghanistan. 

Any amount of withdrawals would never had led to a different outcome without the Afghan troops, government, and citizens pushing back and fighting for the life they want. None of that happened. Some Afghans prospered while Americans were on the ground and began to live more modern lives with bright futures. Futures they would never have had before, but at some point they have to be able to sustain that new life on their own. We’ve been there 20 years. 10 of those years were devoted to nothing more than building, equipping, and training a nation to stand for what it wants. The majority of the people in the country seem to have chosen what they want. You don’t have an army of 300k fall to less than 75k without surrender based on agreement. Are there a large number of citizens who are getting the short end of the stick here? Absolutely. But unfortunately it’s up to them now to find a way out and begin again were they can live peaceful modern lives. I hope they are able to find that. Many will not though and it’s unfortunate because as a whole the country has chosen to embrace the Taliban and their ideology.
