It definitely would have been interesting with Beyoncé. But I feel like Beyoncé’s acting is not that great and it would have been panned by critics.

I do hate the trope that pop music is lesser than singer-songwriter music that showed in the script but it was a great movie and a great way for Gaga to start her acting career.

well, it's not showed in the script or in the subtext that pop music is lesser, but it can be easily misunderstood, electropop music in the script is just used as a conduit to exemplify when the music you do lose purpose, and it's just shallow pop music just for the sake of pop music.

Curiously Gaga in her early career was the first one wanting to eradicate this misconception in the public merging art with pop "pop music will never be low brow" and making meaningful and deep statements using electropop music as a conduit.

for this and more stuff Ally and Gaga are complete opposites, yet ppl like to say she just played herself :flop:

I mean, Will Smith and Beyoncé would've been a very original perspective on the story. Would it have been better? Who knows, but I doubt it.

What Bradley and Gaga did was a commercial and critical success - which is so rare these days. So with all due respect to Ms. Streisand, who is one of the greatest to ever walk the planet, her opinion on how "original" the 2018 version was should be taken with a grain of salt.

Idk if this has been posted already, but this is a good excuse to post BeKindRewind's video comparing the 4 movies - her channel is great in general, highly recommend

I don't think Barbra is correct - BKR points out that one of the main changes in the 2018 version is giving the male lead context which imo resulted in a much better fleshed out and realistic portrayal of mental illness which I'm happy we got - this wasn't so much at the forefront especially in 1976 movie

Men are naturally more dominating, aggressive, and logical thinking because we have balls.

I completely agree with her, asib was pretty conventional and conservative film with conventional and conservative music. In my opinion gagas least interesting project

Wasn’t her version of A Star is Born hated back in the day? Even when I told my family about the remake they were like…but the Barbra one was awful :laughga:

Without the phenomenal music, live singing, and some of the best on screen chemistry between a couple the movie would have been panned.

so without all of the film??:ladyhaha:

Bradley's ASIB is suppose to be about mental health and create a conversation around that. However, without the flashiness the movie would have been panned because it could never have stood on it's own without borderline being a concert/glorified music video. The writing was not good enough. And the music and chemistry extended far beyond the screen. They brought into the real world and made it an event more than just a film which is what garnered the success.

Well it’s the writers fault, not Gaga’s.

Exactly! She didn't say anything about Gaga. People are just overreacting.

She's just mad she's the only actress not to be nominated for Best Actress for A Star Is Born.

Yup yup

Janet Gaynor

Judy Garland
Lady Gaga

Barbra = error 404 not found

Evergreen was the only thing going on for ASIB 1976 and Shallow erased with EASE

She's right. It's very similar to previous versions and in 2018 that is a bit redundant. However, it's not a dig on Gaga as she didn't write the script or direct.

I will say, that she could have threw in a positive comment about Gaga when the reporter tried to turn it around and ask "but it's a compliment to you right". A simple "but I enjoyed it" or "I loved the music" would have been nice lol.

ASIB was an acclaimed, Oscar winning pop culture moment that will most artists will never see. LM should be happy and not let comments like this get to us. She's entitled to her opinion and it wasn't even a drag towards Gaga.

i saw a thread about this on twitter & everyone in the quote tweets were viciously attacking barbara. this extreme dedication to celebrity worship is eating away at people’s brains. she actually didn’t even say anything offensive. & if she had, is it that serious?
