I love Jagmeet.

He’s even wanting people on ODSP to get more for basic needs and shelter. Trust me, WE NEED IT. Disabled people, like myself, always get put on the back burner when it comes to politics. I know politicians lie all the time, but for some reason I believe this man actually wants to help us.

I think sometimes its a little more complicated than that. Sometimes they may just lie to play politics but i think many other times they arent intentionally lying

Between opposition blocks, forced compromises in legislation, change in circumstances, priorities that are forced to change and limited budget that cant do it all...

Also lets not forget every decision has pros and cons. The moment ur in power and u get a lot of pushback and backlash from the ppl who disagree with u ur gonna be forced to hear their reasons in detail. And most of the time there is at least some degree validity from opposition even if nor entirely and u may realize a middle ground sometimes might actually be necessairy and you change ur mind even if ur in a position to follow thru even tho when u were campaigning u werent necessairily lying intentionally

I think a lot of politicians have a genuine vision they want to see thru but actually executing it all thru with the original plan is a lot more complicated than the talk phase of your intentions during campaigning

I think Canadas biggest priority to help ppl struggling should be to fix this dam housing shortage weve had for 20 years thay makes it so unaffordable for anyone in the bottom 80% to live if they didnt enter the market a long time ago while making boomers like my grandparents rich simply by gaining equity

Its bad. We have the lowest number of units relative to population in the G7 and if we were to get to the OECD average we need another 1.4 Million housing units... for a population of 38 Million... if the average unit had only 3 people thats housing thats 10% below where it should be which is a huge number actually on a supply demand balance

U can raise wages all u want... higher wages means ppl will have the power to bid realestate higher and on a relative basis will still remain unaffordable

I think thats the real issue. If minimum wage went up to only $17/h lets say but housing was affordable which is what takes over half of peoples pay that would be enough to live on...

on the other hand u could raise minimum wage to $25/h even and ppl would still struggle if this issue isnt solved

I make $22.50/h (more than most people)... and still if i moved out of my parents in the GTA it would be a serious struggle still unless i found a room mate or got into a relationship with a second income to supplement it

As long as the shortage remains as severe as it is, its gonna keep draining everyones budget and capital relative to what we earn and keep us struggling

Im not opposed to raising the minimum wage. But im just saying this issue should be an even bigger priority... because its an issue if not solved, any minimum wage hikes will not solve it either
