Why are you assuming she wasn't happy to?

I'm not assuming anything. I'm saying that to use the reasoning of "I raised you!" is a flimsy excuse. It isn't an excuse to be awful to your child.

I never said it was??? I'm saying she raised him so she obviously supported him up to adulthood. Folks were saying she never supported him.

From his Wikipedia

As a youth, Tarantino attended an Evangelical church, describing himself as "baptized, born again and everything inbetween." Tarantino said this was an act of rebellion against his Roman Catholic mother, as she had encouraged what might usually be considered more conventional forms of rebellion, such as his interests in comic books and horror films.

Honestly he sounds petty AF. She even encouraged an interest in what became the core of his movies. If we wanted to we could all pick out things that our parents did wrong. At a certain age you have to grow up and get over it. Have a conversation about it if you need to but to still be holding on to such pettiness at 60 and talking like that about your mother on a podcast is beyond lame.

But agree to disagree.

I absolutely hate it when people bring up this excuse. Parents don't deserve an award for doing the bare minimum. Keeping children that you consensually brought to this world is the bare minimum.

Well we have a different way of looking at life. For me, I see that our parents didn't ask to be here either and they're just trying to make the best out of the life that they have in most cases

Also, like half of pregnancies in the US are unplanned

I kind of 100% agree with him but at the same time I wonder if his mother was a good mother to him all the other time...like how can u not want to share a bit of your wealth with your mother who took care of you :emma: Like was she abusive or mean or discouraging him ALL the time? Or was that just a one off because she was scared for his academics? It seems excessive to cut her out of your wealth altogether if it was just because of that ONE time where she discouraged his dreams...

How do you know she did the bare minimum though?

I was talking about the generally idea of "parents kept you alive therefore you owe them X, Y, Z."

Which is why I directly quoted you writing "Like she literally kept me alive.."

:)

We'll need a citation for the US pregnancies claim. And regardless my opinion is strictly on consensual and planned procreation.

I'm also not from the US.

Hm. Sometimes parents say those things out of love because they want you to "play it safe" and choose a career that can put food on the table and give you some standing in society.

But if she was constantly berating him for it then I understand.

I never said he did? Fgs what is this notion that we shouldn't be grateful to our parents for raising us? Yes some parents are terrible and there is valid reasons for not wanting anything to do with them but others do their best and sulking for the rest of your life bc your mom said being a writer was pointless is pathetic 😅

Y'all need to stop equating that with telling your kid you will never accept them as gay. It's NOT the same thing.

Imagine having kids that treated you like dirt as an adult just bc they didn't molly coddle your every whim as a kid. Lordttttt!!

God I hate people that think you owe your lives to your parents just because they birthed you. Some people were NOT meant to be parents and inevitably end up doing a poor job. It’s not our job as a society to tell people they’re wrong for not subjecting to toxic family values simply because they gave you life. My family gave me life too, they also gave me severe childhood trauma and much more that I have to find a way to live with.  Half of them would be lucky to ever see a dime out of me. Once you bring a life Into the world it’s your responsibility to raise it— they don’t owe you a thing for that. It was completely your decision to become a parent.
