Earth has so far warmed up by about 1C since industrial revolution but a study finds warming would have been an additional 0.2C to 0.25C (or 20% to 25% higher) if it wasnt for an effect known as "Greening" which results in a slight offsetting factor tho no where enough to offset the entire warming

2 factors of climate result in greening which is stronger plant growth and a larger area of earths surface covered in green vegetation

Increased CO2 atmospheric levels provide more fertilization for plants in their photosynthesis process resulting in stronger plant growth...

The 2nd factor is more plant growth and longer growing season in higher latitudes which have a shortned winter

The "Greening" effect has been tracked since the 1980s and expected to continue into the future.

Although it will continue to offset global warming to some degree, it is a modest help as the warming temperate and higher CO2 concentrations required for a certain amount of greening vs the cooling effect that greening has occurs at a ratio of 4:1 or less

This map shows greeaning from 2000 to 2018

This 2nd map shows areas where greening is expected in the future

Note that in India and China re-forestation efforts and more agriculture were noted for partially explaining large increases there

In Brazil where a lot of the amazons have been cut you can see some negative growth

So instead of being shot with 10 bullets we are only going to be shot with 8.

Basically :lolly:

The right ratio is 10 instead of 12 if u make each 0.1C a bullet :ladyhaha:

I'm cautiously optimistic about the future. Environmental efforts are picking up steam. Idk if it'll be enough to avert total catastrophe but...fingers crossed :enigma:

Not really. The warming we have had and are forecast to have has occured and will occur with this factored in already so it literally changes no projections :enigma:

I just found this effect interesting tho

I thought we had 12 years for ecological collapse or whatnot. Were past the point of no return for what?

Oh yeah but i thought we been knew that for a while tho. Between the carbon accumulated in atmosphere and the feedbackloops hasnt it been known for time earth would still continue to warm up for a while on its own?

Theres many articles on this topic and this isnt some attempt by some group to downplay global warming either

The warming weve experienced so far happened despite this offset and the study itself says so, so it doesnt really change anything for what has happened or whats projected to happen. It simply means it woulda been even higher without this effect

I posted it cuz i just found it interesting
