While I do think you are right to an extent, I dont think you can compare Shallow’s situation to this. When people went to watch ASIB they knew its gonna be a musical about singers and they expected good music from the movie. Most of them went to the cinema to hear good music and of course after that they went and bought the soundtrack and streamed its music. Top Gun is a movie with Tom Cruise for straight people who want to watch a movie with flying jets. Of course some of them will enjoy HMH and maybe they will look it up but for most people its just gonna be a cute song in the background.

Yes, it’s quite impressive. The single did far better overseas, but it still did decent in the United States.
