Lost 'Mythical' Castle Found In Dry Lake By Clever Archaeologist

The castle was the largest castle in, which was once an island just off the southeast coast of Sweden in the Baltic Sea. Archaeologist Jan-Henrik Fallgren rediscovered the castle after finding a reference to it in a 1704 AD dissertation.

According to  Sputnik News  the researcher began hunting for the castle by following clues from the 18th century text. He first ventured to a dried-up lake at Skedemosse where a headland juts out from the bog known as Kvinnö. There, on that time Öland worn peninsula, the archaeologist discovered the lost mythical castle after it had been considered lost for over 300 years.

Skedemosse was one of southern Sweden's most important ancient  sacrificial sites . From as early as 400 BC until the 12th century AD communities of people gathered here to make sacrificial offerings to Pagan gods. Almost 1 ton (about 1,000 kilograms) of human and animal bones have been recovered at this ritual site along with large quantities of weapons and gold.

This castle existed during dark ages. Not that surprised now that i think about it even tho innitially reading it i was shook

My guess is that most of those bones are from ancient, pre-medieval rituals. The Middle ages have the reputation of being a very obscure era, full of witches and ocultism, but that is not necesarilly true (it is even argued that the Middle Ages were the beggining of Western science, with alchemy being the precursor to modern day chemistry).

I mean i didnt specify which time period exactly. Castles can last many hundreds of years. It may have disapeared at a certain point but could have existed since for a long time before that...

 

I just mean in whatever time period dark ages occured the castle may have been around already. I didnt see any mention of when it was built

The place was used for sacrificial purposes from 400 BC to the Middle Ages! The timeline goes like this: PreHistory -> Ancient history -> Middle Ages. The Dark Ages are usually used as a synonim to the Middle Ages, although they also have a specific meaning, as early Middle Ages had very little recorded history, so it was considered 'dark'. But the term is not really used anymore. I don't remember all the details, but I think finds from this supposed time period weren't actually missing, it was just that historians counted the years based on a wrong calendar.
