Lambda is already out. The Greek letter naming doesn’t necessarily progress aggressiveness of the virus from what I understand. It’s just new strains that pop up in different regions. I believe the Delta is still the worst one so far? And this Plus is…no idea

The use of the Greek alphabet was to reduce negative connotations with calling them the UK, Brazil, and Indian variant. It was an effort to avoid racist undertones like when Trump and his idiot cult members called it Kung Flu or the China Flu. Lambda was first detected in Peru and I believe a few cases were confirmed here some time ago. Delta is still the one everyone is highly concerned about.

We're never beating this virus.

People really need to get out of the mindset that the virus will ever be “beaten”. The whole point of vaccinations and stuff isn’t to eradicate the virus, it’s to control it. It, like tons of other viruses, will stick around, just like the flu for example. And viruses mutate all the time, multiple variants popping up is totally to be expected especially for a virus that’s gone around for more than a year and a half all over the world.

Here’s the thing though: we’ve known this from the beginning. It is rare to ever “beat” a virus in the sense that we eradicate it. It, like many other viruses, will always be here. It’s not about beating it, it’s about managing it. If people would properly vaccinate, managing it to the point that it becomes just another fact of life and not a big, “name brand” illness is obtainable. People just have to do it and they’re never going to if the world’s governments don’t put more than these half assed efforts into making it happen.

Yeah viruses evolve rather than die exept this one keeps getting variations that are stronger and stronger and stronger.

Like corona needs to take a chill pill and take a break for a few months from all the armor item upgrades, this aint a video game :madge:

I mean I cracked a joke that COVID was wiping us out one by one (or wiping off lmao), but I’m certain everything happens for a reason. I’m sure these companies are working on modifying the vaccines to adapt to the Delta Variant. I think the challenge is having enough data to find what works. I read earlier that the FDA is slated to give Pfizer full approval for their vaccine early September.

No full approval. Right now all three vaccines in the US are under EUA (Emergency Use Authorization) and have been this way for as long as COVID is considered a public health emergency. The formal process takes much longer and it’s believe with formal FDA approval, it’ll convince unvaccinated people to get their shots and give businesses stronger foundations to impose vaccine mandates.
