Carey Mulligan at least won one major award (I think it was the SAG or Critics' Choice), which I'm hoping Gaga would at least achieve, because there is the possibility of Kristen sweeping all four major Oscar precursors. Meat 18,962
Just now, Bradley said: there is the possibility of Kristen sweeping all four major Oscar precursors. I don’t think Kristen will win at the SAGs (Voted by actors, she’s not very respected in Hollywood) or BAFTAs (Spencer is not very Royal-family friendly) She will definitely win the critics choice award though. I’ve been keeping up with Hollywood stuff since like a decade now lol. You can google it, Kristen is one of the most hated people in Hollywood. She has like 20 performances that are way better than Spencer but this is the first time she’s even being nominated for awards.

All I’m saying is Kristen is definitely a critics favourite but all she’s winning right now are circles with 10-20 members. Last year Carey had a way better track record than her but she still lost the Oscar.

I mean I just find it hard to believe that adult-aged industry experts would let personal biases go in their way, sure there are people like this, but are there enough of these people to sway the outcome? Wouldn't it be more plausible to think that most people are objective enough to cast a vote based on who they really think is the best, especially if they are actors themselves? It's just what I think, I'm not trying to argue with you. Also Robert Pattinson has been acclaimed left and right but he never got nominated, I don't think it's because he's hated. It simply means the movie didn't get campaigned well enough.

I mean look at the BAFTAs, Olivia Colman has never even been nominated for The Crown while she won an Emmy for it here in the states. Once again, politics. The only actors that were nominated were the ones that performed in a way that was approved by the royal family (aka showed them in a positive light) As soon as the third season came in, the storyline got a little more serious and the actors started getting snubbed. Im not saying that Kristen will be snubbed but if they were offended by Olivia’s performance, then I wonder what will they think of Spencer, which is extremely disturbing and unsettling. I mean look at the BAFTAs, Olivia Colman has never even been nominated for The Crown while she won an Emmy for it here in the states. Once again, politics. It's weird because on one hand I do feel like Kristen is fairly popular in Hollywood—like she's friends with big names like Charlize Theron, Jodie Foster, Julianne Moore, Taika Waiti, etc.—but on the other hand you have a good point that she's given multiple acclaimed/well reviewed performances where people thought she would get nominated for at least some of the precursor awards (e.g. Still Alice, Sils Maria)...but she was not. And those were in the supporting category, which is generally an easier field to get in. I still believe Spencer is one of her best performances, though. I wonder if it is sort of a residual snobbery about Twilight. I'm not a big Pattinson fan, but he's also given several very well reviewed performances in critically acclaimed films and has been snubbed. Add that in with a refusal to really play the game-even if she's campaigning this year-and it would explain why, even if she has some important friends in Hollywood, she's been snubbed. I suppose Charlize sort of fits the same bill. Seems like she has a lot of Hollywood friends, but still doesn't engage in the politics or the game...and misses out on nominations for films like Tully or Young Adult. Joaquin is another example. *Chastain is sort of the opposite. I really like her as an actress and she seems like a good person, but she campaigns HARD. All the critics sneering about Gaga or Rami or Eddie Redmayne or whatever being thirsty...Jessica's done far more than any of them. She's willing to play the game and campaign.
