I mean, even if the movie is bad, I don't really understand why some of y'all are having these meltdowns over it

99.99% of us, on this forum, are watching it because of Gaga. Even in a lot of the negative reviews, Gaga stands out as being one of the best (if not, THE best) thing in the movie. We're gucci

Yeah. Gaga did not wrote the script or direct this movie :smh: Idk why some are acting so defensive over these mixed reviews.

I think the chief editor from Collider praised the movie last week, I think it counts for MC.

I remember on GoldDerby, a user and I went through 30 or so critic reviews that were posted on Letterboxd before the Thursday fan showings began. I remember this user took all the ratings we found and it averaged to a 68%. We shall see how much that number changes as the sample size of critics grow. I always expected this to get either lukewarm or mixed reviews because of the satirical tone that Ridley chose to adapt. I think a good number of critics wanted this to be a serious, gritty crime drama.

That's very fair. To be honest, I thought it was going to be a more serious, gritty crime drama too. I was surprised by just how "campy" and playful this movie seemed to be (from the promo material).

Some of us are here for the movie itself, not only for Gaga. Why is it so hard to understand for some of you?  :toofunny:

Literally every single actor/actress has had more than their fair share of bad movies. HoG doesn't even seem to be "bad." It has some pretty great reviews, but even if this movie doesn't perform as well as some thought, it's not a reflection of Gaga.

She also hated on episode 8 of WandaVision and like GIRL THAT WAS THE BEST EPISODE WHAT THE FUUUUUCK

Ep 8 of WV was def top tier for the flashback with her parents and Pietro alone. Plus, the Agatha flashback. time to rewatch WandaVision, me thinks :vegas:

One other reason I think that why some critics didn't like this film is that they take this film too seriously or wanted it to take itself seriously but it never meant to be serious. They wanted gritty, hardcore humanity drama with deep meaning or massage, yet this movie doesn't have any agenda to prove but to show people the inside of a rich family. Oddly, some critics think less of these kind of films than those serious films but forgot that films can exist just for entertainment purpose, it doesn't have to be educational.

I am not surprised with these reviews. Just like I said last week after watching it, the plot and story, and pacing making the movie middling at best, but that is all on Ridley, cos all the actors are all great in it. Even the on who shows briefly like Jeremy Irons & Salma

My thoughts exactly. The direction is really the main issue I had with the film. Every performance was stellar, but frankly I wish they had better material to work with. Low key feel like if Ryan Murphy directed this a la Crime Story Versace, it would've been an absolute banger
