US reaches 100k COVID cases again; first time since February

But isnt the US super vaccinated in general? I dont understand why cases are going up everywhere in the world but some countries have a lot of vaccinated people, and the percentage of unvaccinated people is less than those who got vaccinated. How are we gonna end this mess

Delta variant. 100k cases is still low. The city where I live went from 69 positive to 697 positive tests in a span of 5 days some weeks ago (on a population of 700k, so it's comparable to going from 33k to 330k daily infections in 5 days for the US). But with people being just slightly more careful as well as increased immunity from infection, such a rise is only temporary. If you haven't been vaccinated yet, get your jab! Try to get Pfizer or Moderna, because these two protect you the most.

But also don't let the virus limit your life too much at this point. The people who want to be vaccinated have been vaccinated by now in rich countries. It's not your job to stay at home so the willfully unvaccinated don't catch covid. And yes, you can get covid if you've been vaccinated, but at that point it's not more than a normal flu.

It’s cause of the backlog in Florida and I think a couple of other states are doing the same. 

The actual daily number I’m seeing is 61K not including the backlog so let’s say if we included daily it would be 70K-80K.

Still high and ridiculous we were at 10K a day back in June.

I'm not an expert - but my understanding is the US is about 50% vaccinated right now, so having a population over 300 million, there are still LOTS of people who can easily get it / spread it. Cases right now are overwhelmingly among unvaccinated people.

Herd immunity is somewhere north of 70% so I believe if and when we can reach that level of vaccination, things should theoretically start to get better.

Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong here.

My country is ahead of the US in both 1st and 2nd doses. The US isnt really THAT ahead anymore

 

Also the US vaccination rates vary a lot by State. Some Southern States with more antivaxxers the rate is still pretty pitiful compared to what it could be

 

Here in Canada were at 81% for 1 shot and 65% for two but 1st shots are stalling now... i hope low 80s is enough to prevent resurgence but i doubt it with the delta variant

70% was the original strain. Because the new variants are much more transmissible new estimates put herd immunity closer to between 80% and as high as 90%

i believe you are correct and i think 90%+ of the cases admitted to the hospital are unvaccinated.

What annoys me is that here in the UK most of the anti-vaxxers are also the anti-lockdown, "give us our freedom" types of people. Yet, it is exactly their actions (refusing to be vaccinated, wear masks, social distance, etc), that is prolonging the pandemic and making restrictions/another lockdown more likely. If they spent their Sunday afternoons getting vaccinated, rather than protesting, then maybe we could get through this quicker. They annoy me beyond belief.
